My almost 6 ds, who is truly a dear sweet boy who can be intense at times, has trouble listening when it's time to go. We go somewhere to play and I'll warn him that it is about time to go, then I say it is time to go. sometimes it's just so hard to get him to leave, often he actually runs from me. Warning him that if he cannot listen, we will not come back next time, helps a little, but is still not totally working.
Sometimes we have to go too soon and I feel he hasn't had enough playtime. Other times he's been there too long and is over done, hungry, (yes, I take snacks) whatever. sometimes I can see a possible cause, but the point is, he doesn't listen. This is very disturbing, as it is potentially unsafe to have a child not listen and who would actually run and hide from me. I need him to listen. Also, this should not matter, and it's not really the issue, but its embarrassing at times.
Any ideas? Please help!

Before you go to your destination, you need to discuss with him the time tha he'd like to leave. Agree a time. Make it clear that it is conditional on his leaving at a certain time.

Make him come and check your watch every 15 mins so he can see the time.

Also. Don't leave when you realy have to. Budget more time. Agree to leave at 4. Tell him that if he wants to stay extra, you can arange it! Play that by ear though.

I'm having some success at having the child be responsible for time keeping. He's just learning to tell time and now has a cheap (very cheap, as in cereal box variety) watch that he loves. So, yesterday I told him we needed to leave the park at 1:30. He was excited but the responsibility and control that watching his watch gave him. About 1:15 I started asking him to tell me the time, and telling me how much time he had left. At least yesterday, it worked. Don't know if it will all the time, but might be worth a try.
