DS is 5 months old now and we have co slept from day 1! He has always slept on his side and then as soon as he could roll we started finding him on his belly for naps.<br>
When ever I found him on his belly I would roll him back to his back.... now the more I roll him the more he wakes up and rolls back to his belly...<br>
WHEN IS IT SAFE TO LET HIM SLEEP ON HIS BELLY??

Yes, I think if he can roll himself, you are fine. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> Especially if he sleeps with/near you at night. Plus, if you're sleeping, how would you make him stay on his back anyway? Duct tape? <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/wink1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="wink1"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

Once he gets there himself he's fine. My ds never would sleep on his back, even as an infant. Just make sure he's on a firm surface with nothing by his face.

I ditto the pp ~ make sure the mattress is firm with no pillows near his face. Both my dd and ds preferred sleeping on their stomachs (still do!).

I personally am mistrustful that there's any merit at all to keeping a baby off his belly while sleeping unless he doesn't want to do it. The studies seem stacked. My two have been on their bellies since 3 months and counting.
