Okay, I can't go to the TBW meetings, ds wouldn't last, and I don't think going to learn how to carry a child in a specific carrier is exactly productive without said child being present...SO...

I need someone who can give me hands on Ergo help. I cannot...CANNOT do it by myself. I am too too too clumsy. And uh, I think I need the waist extension. I'll come to you, you come to me, we can meet at a park...I DON'T CARE. I spent $80 on a carrier that's supposed to be awesome and rarely use it. I want to use it more, esp. since ds is getting soooooooo big and still needs/wants to be carried all the time.

Glenda? Anybody?

I'm not sure if I can help you, but i can try : ) I do not have an Ergo yet, but am ordering one this week. I do have experience carrying my VERY heavy son on my back using an Ellaroo wrap, and from what I see on the Ergo videos, it seems to be similar, without all the material to wrap. After I get mine, we can get together at a park or wherever and work on it together, if you'd like. I live in Morrisville, btw. Just let me know : )
Hi there, Finch,

I'm not sure if we've ever met, I flaked out on the recent local get together.

I have an Ergo, and I love mine. I think I got it when DS was somewhere between 9 and 12 months. At first, I had to sit on the couch to get him in it. I'd fasten the strap around my waist, prop him up standing against the back of the couch, sit down right in front of him, try to get him to then lean into my back, then try to get the shoulder straps up... it was quite the production. Now he's 2+ yrs and I can do it myself pretty well while on the go and it's great. Basically, I start with the waist strap around my waist, then I have to pick him up and sort of fling him around onto my back while I lean way over so he won't fall off (he thinks this is much fun, of course), then while he's sort of laying on my back and I"m still bending over forwards, I get the shoulder straps up over my shoulders and then finally I can stand up straignt and have to sort of jiggle him down into place where we're both comfortable. I have no idea if that makes any sense at all!

If you want to get together sometime, send me a PM and we'll work something out. I go to the NC Botanical Garden every Tuesday for a late morning walk, so I'd be the lady with the kid in the Ergo...

Thanks, y'all!! I may take you both up on your offers. Lizabird, I'd love to meet at the Gardens some day if you don't mind wandering hither and yon as my ds just runs to burn off energy.

I sat him on the bed and got him into it okay, I just want to be proficient enough to use it in public well, kwim?

I totally know what you mean. I felt the same way at first too, just practiced a lot at home until I felt like I could take the whole show on the road and not feel like a clumsy fool in public.

DS loves to run around the botanical gardens so that's totally fine with me

I did it!!! I put him in the Ergo all by myself today at Barnes and Noble!! I did have to sit him on the trunk of the car for a minute to get adjusted , but I did it!! Celebrating with you!!

I don't have an ergo but I use a technique like the PP described when putting my DS (2) in my Kozy mei tei on my back. I spread out the carrier on the couch, plop him on top of it, sit in front of him and then adjust the straps.

Hopefully it will get easier now that you've done it already

BTW, I missed the last get together too but would still love to meet up sometime with the local moms. My DS's nap time was around the same time as the meet up last time, and I just had too much on my plate to make the get together.

Okay, I give, I need help. I have the TBW website bookmarked. Here's my question....I need help with my Ergo, but I'd need to have my ds with me. He's an autistic toddler....needless to say, he won't be quiet or calm and he may very well freak out in a crowd of unknown people. Could I say meet you at a TBW meeting at either the very end or very beginning, and comandeer you to help me?

Yes, you can meet me before or after a meeting. Or, I am going to start planning weekday meetings at parks and such if that would work better and we could meet there, your choice.

Hopefully soon! I'm going to post to see what parks people recommend. Do you have any suggestions?
