Yay! I just did my very first playsilk dying with kool aid! And let me tell you.. it was ridiculously easy. Like, holding the baby in one hand and dying with the other easy. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> I was surprised HOW easy.<br><br>
I was trying to get a sky look, so I figured I'd put the fabric in dry so it would be a bit mottled. In hindsight I should have been more mindful which part I put in the water first since it soaked the dye up pretty quickly.. but overall.. I think I did a good job and it looks nice. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> My daughter is dancing around it and under it while waiting for it to dry. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br><a href="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/177/473789556_7767f1039a.jpg" target="_blank">Its our very first play silk ever!<br></a><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/carrot.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="carrot"><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/broc1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Broccoli">:<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/banana.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="banana"><br><br>
(btw, I used a wooden spoon to poke it around and didn't get any dye on my fingers! Bonus! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">)

Well done! I like the sky look. How many pack of kool-aid did you use? I just dyed my first one yesterday and I think I'm addicted! Every kid I know is getting a set of playsilks for their birthdays this year.

Thanks guys!! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/loveeyes.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Loveeyes">:<br><br>
My car is out of commission at the moment so I was only able to use 2 packages per silk. I think next time I'll try 3 or 4 just to see if the color will get darker or not. I just put some hot water in a glass oven dish, mixed in the kool aid. And put in the silk. I had to put it in quickly cause it soaks up whatever area hits first and makes it darker there. (which is why I think I want to try using more kool aid) I waited til the water was clear.. so like... 15 seconds. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> Then I zapped it in the microwave for 35 seconds at a time, stir, and repeated 6 times. All directions say to do it for longer but my microwave is strange and often burns things it shouldn't and I was afraid of it catching fire so I did short bursts instead and it worked fine. Rinsed it and no color bleed out at all. Hung it up to dry!<br><br>
I've dyed a blue one, pink one, and last night a green one. (that is my favorite one so far!)<br><br>
Ya I'm addicted because its so super easy!
