I was just looking at the co-op for Dharma Trading Co., and I know lots of people have lots of fun with playsilks, so I was wondering about how various dyes work? I am going ultra budget these days, so would Kool-Ade work? The dyes that look the best from Dharma are the acid dyes, but I have a REALLY hard time justifying $4.49 per 1/2 ounce of each color. I'm thinking a 20-cent pack of koolade might do the trick, but does it work on silk?

Kool-aide will work for you on silk.

Just an FYI, I use the mx procion dyes for my silks. With silk the procion dyes can be activated with either the soda ash or vinegar(or another acid i.e. citric acid crystals).

They really are beautiful dyes! but they are pretty toxic to breathe and hard to avoid when using. I totally recommend a mask - it may be worth it if you are considering picking up a new craft - tons of fun.
