My 8 1/2 mo DD has her first ear infection ever and it's a doozy. She had a cold that wouldn't go away, complete w/fever; & then one morning she woke up w/her eyes crusted shut.
That whole day she had green stuff oozing out her tear ducts. I took her in to the dr & she told me both ears were badly infected.

She wrote me prescriptions for abx & ear drops, & dosing guidelines for tylenol for pain/fever. I went ahead & filled the prescription for abx (amoxicillin) because I was afraid her eardrums would burst & that would lead to hearing damage. Plus my poor kiddo really was quite miserable & sleep deprived. After I dosed her up she slept 12 hours straight through! I had to wake her to feed a couple of times for fear my bbs would explode...

I had ear infections quite a lot as a small child which I always attributed to early introduction of cow's milk but now I'm not so sure, I think it might be genetic. You know, placement/size of eustachian tubes & all that.

How do you all treat ear infections in your kids? I'd love to know. I don't want to get into a cycle with my poor kiddo where I'm giving her abx after abx & destroying her healthy flora... but I don't want her having repeated ear infections either.

I was coming to post the same thing. My 11 month old just had a horrible reaction to zithromax, and all others give her really bad stomach problems. Her (and both my other children who had to get tubes) ear infections dont go away on their own if left alone either. So is there anything to do for them to get rid of them other than antibiotics?
