I was wondering if your family does anything special for Earth Day or if you have anything fun planned?

We live in the country and as of today we still have quite a bit of snow! I was hoping to do something garden-themed, but that may have to be moved inside. I really want us to do something with nature out of the house...maybe we could make some bird feeders? We do have a lot of birds returning, but there is not much for them to eat yet!

What will your family do?

We homeschool and our whole week will be Earth Day projects.
: We are doing a bean plant project (the one where you soak some kidney beans, put them in a cupboard, then plant them when they sprout) and they have roots now. I plan to plant them with DD on Earth Day. I also bought a few kids books on recycling etc. We'll make recycled paper with a paper-making kit. On the 22nd, DH and I hope to take DD to see "Earth." It will be her first theater experience, so we are excited.

This is an issue for us every year. We live green 24/7. We live off the grid, compost our own waste, grow food, & etc.
For recreational reading, my kids read about environmental topics, we discuss the items of the day, petitions, bills, & etc. It's just a part of our family fiber. So every year this holiday rolls around, and I *want* to do something, but it's like, "what"? We already plant trees, and think about our carbon footprint. I think ultimately I would like to use Earth Day as an opprotunity to take them to rallies, fairs, and parades. I think that would be great fun, but the timing has sadly never been right for us. But this year, I think we will. We were planning on visiting the flats around then anyway. I'm certain Boulder (
) must have an Earth Day event going on, so I'll check into it. And I think that's what we'll do this year.

We have been celebrating earth day the same way for the past 3 years since my dd was 3.
: its become our family tradition for now.

we go to the earth fair event on the 22nd.

that weekend we join in the clean up your creek/river - this weekend it is on april 25th. though we volunteer at least once a month with either clean up, planing trees, or setting up an irrigating system.

we take part in a weekend earth festival which happens a couple of weeks later.
