<p>My little guy (10 mo) developed a bad cold over the past few days than we had to fly. Last night he was crying in pain and grabbing at his ear. I'm not sure he has an ear infection, or if his congestion got pushed into the ear as we were landing.<br>
He had a fever past few days (it was 100.1 at its highest) but it's better now, however, he is tired, grumpy, and having a hard time sleeping. Anything I can do to make it better? I don't think I want to jump to ABx right away since this is most likely a viral infection. If it wasn't for the ear I'd just keep him comfortable and wait a  few days to see if it's getting better. I gave him a little bit of infant tylenol (the store brand) and it helps, but I don't want to overuse it. Any advice?</p>

<p>I make onion compresses when dd or I get an achy ear. Just chop an onion up and fry it without any fat a bit and wrap it up in a linen towel. Check temp before applying to ear. You can do this obviously as often as necessary.</p>

<p>A friend of mine used tea tree oil in her dd's ear when she had an earache. It cleared it up so well that it the ear infection was gone within 24hrs! I've not used it personally, but that's what I'd try first.</p>

<p>Our health food store has a herbal ear drop remedy that I used for my daughter to keep her off antibiotics until she got tubes. It worked well but I don't know the name.</p>

<p>When I was a kid my mom would put 1-2 drops of warm olive oil in our ears. It worked wonderfully!</p>

<p>Thanks for your replies everyone, he's still sick but the fever is mostly gone. He did scream alot before falling asleep last night and that was tough <img alt="greensad.gif" class="bbcode_smiley" src="http://files.mothering.com//images/smilies/greensad.gif">, but otherwise he was fine with naps and in a good mood, albeit a little tired. I will start by trying tea tree oil, it works great on everything else for me. I've caught a bug as well, sitting at home working on my laptop now with DS napping next to me. <img alt="" src="http://files.mothering.com/sneeze.gif" style="width:25px;height:17px;" title=""></p>
