Hi mamas, (and papas)

My little guy (10 mo) developed a bad cold over the past few days than we had to fly. Last night he was crying in pain and grabbing at his ear. I'm not sure he has an ear infection, or if his congestion got pushed into the ear as we were landing.
He had a fever past few days (it was 100.1 at its highest) but it's better now, however, he is tired, grumpy, and having a hard time sleeping. Anything I can do to make it better? I don't think I want to jump to ABx right away since this is most likely a viral infection. If it wasn't for the ear I'd just keep him comfortable and wait a few days to see if it's getting better. I gave him a little bit of infant tylenol (the store brand) and it helps, but I don't want to overuse it. Any advice?

TIA
