i was just thinking today about our up coming move to MX and my mil has chickens and roosters roaming her yard and they drop eggs just about anywhere they feel the need to...it's kind of funny..weve found eggs in crazy places. Anyways are these eggs safe to eat...she puts them in the refrigerator and cooks with them...i'm guessing this is ok..but i was wondering if anyone knows for sure?

Having chickens and guineas that drop eggs in weird places occasionally, the best way to tell if an egg is fresh is to get a glass, fill with water and put the egg in. Make sure the glass is pretty large, or use some other container. If the egg lays flat, it's fresh. If it tips up but is still on the bottom, it can be used. But if it floats, don't use it at all.

As an egg ages the egg space gets bigger. Also microbial activity and other stuff can cause the egg to float too. Rotten eggs, yuck!
