Now that 1 yr is approaching this month I was wondering when I should start to impliment the spoon & bowl at meal time! She has from day one always fed helself table food, no purees so no spoons!

I usually offer spoons and plates/bowls. More days than not, she dumps the stuff on her tray and throws the plate/bowl on the floor. But, she likes to be a big girl like her sisters, so I generally offer.

I think a nice wooden bowl and a spoon would be great. Dd loves her wooden stuff.

My DS will be 1 yr old tomorrow. He eats mostly table foods, but I usually spoon feed him things like yogurt and whatever hot cereal I am eating. The other day I just gave him the spoon and bowl when he was almost done, and he just started feeding himself (there is a video on our blog...so cute!). So I would say, just give her some safe utensils (the wooden ones are a good idea) and let her play with them. I think they learn a lot just by watching us!

I started to give DS a fork, spoon, and plate regularly when he was around one-ish (can't remember the exact age now!). He doesn't always use them (sometimes it's quicker to use his hands), but he does like to hold them even if he eats with his hands.

DD has been spoon-feeding herself yoghurt this past month, since we introduced yoghurt at 8 months. She does cover her front and the table in yoghurt, but she does great! Sometimes she needs us to load the spoon for her, but then we place it back in the bowl for her.
