I have been wondering about this for a few weeks now. For those of you who started ECing from the first few weeks, have you noticed whether your baby sits up early?

I have a 12 week old and I am sure he has stronger back from my holding him over the tub and sitting him on the BBLP. He seems to be able to support himself like say a 5 month old would. I recall reading about how in other places in the world babies do things a lot sooner than in the west due in part to expectations of what babies are capable of and partly due to 'training' i.e with regards to sitting, in some tribes, the mother digs a hole in the ground for the infant to sit unaided so she can get back to working in the fields sooner.

What are your experiences?

My DD sat unassistrd by 4 1/2 months. I think partly due to practice on the little potty (supported). We didn't really start EC until 3 months, so maybe she's just naturally strong. She was lifting her head to look around when on tummy by 3 weeks.

i started part time EC with my DS at 3.5 months. he's a big guy (99%ile for weight) so he had been somewhat less manoueverable than other babies his age... but i've noticed he makes real advances when he's diaper-free. he still doesn't sit unsupported, but he needs very little support right now, and sits better than all but one other baby in our mommies group who range from his age to 3 weeks older.

when i first started giving him lots of diaper free time he immediately found his feet and soon started sucking on his toes... after about a month he could also do this with his diaper on... same with rolling - he started rolling back to tummy at 4 mo. and tummy to back at 5 mo. but at first only diaper free. now at 5.5 mo he can link the two together, while wearing a diaper.

i encourage the other moms in the group to give their babies naked time... the kids love it and get to explore moving their bodies in new ways. i just think it's the way babies were meant to be! if they were supposed to need diapers they'd have come with them, right?

Yep, my little girl started sitting, crawling and rolling earlier than her older sister. We started at 3 months and she was already rolling a little by then. But I did notice how quickly she started sitting after that. I was amazed. though I do have to say that she started walking later than her older sister, but just by a couple of weeks. I am not expecting htem to be the same, just it was a way of reference for me.

LOL...I started EC when Ds was 5.5 mths. He was sitting pretty well then. He has always had a great "center of gravity"...on his butt. He's been scooting around on it since 9 mths and still does not crawl. Just started pulling up. Dh and I think some of it may have to do with sitting on the potty and using his feet to maneuver around since early on. Oh well.
