Hi all, I wish I got into clothe diapers sooner and also that I knew about ECing. I became a SAHP after maternity leave so had ample time for both...but the upfront cost of cloth diapers seemed daunting. Now, I realized you can gradually buy cloth diapers. Yesterday, bought a dozen chinese prefolds and one Bummi. A friend lent me The Diaper Free Baby and reading how it's easier for a baby to become familiar with wetness if they have a cloth diaper on...so that's how I decided to at least try cloth diapering and ECing part time.

Wow, what a ramble. So, we've been working on the cues and signing to her when we put her on the potty. We have several periods (about 15 minutes) each where she is diaper free. She pooped in the potty once. I feel like it was just pure luck. I smelled a "toot" and put her on the potty. As far as peeing, there's no indication from her but I've caught her starting to go and she's peed half on the floor half in the potty. I do the sssss sound and said "you're peeing" and show her the pee and then put it in the toilet. Are we doing the right thing so far? We put her on it periodically but need more of a routine, I know. The morning is tough. When she wakes up we bring her in with us on the bed and she plays and reads. It's family time. The idea of taking her out of her pj's and putting on the potty feels invasive to our precious time. So, we need to be better about that. We put her on the potty after nursing and meals and just every so often, esp. when we go to the bathroom ourselves.

So, any tips on for a late bloomer? Or at least a thumbs up that we're in the right direction?

That, my friend, isn't luck. It's putting the C in EC!

for being in the right direction.
