I've been using epazote, a Mexican herb, to give my black bean dishes an authentic flavor for a few months.... But now that I'm pregnant, I figured I should be sure that herbs like that are okay for pregnancy.

OMG!!!!! I'm so glad I checked!!!! I found out that epazote is used traditionally to induce abortions, so NO more of that for me! I haven't eaten but a bite or two from my quesadilla but now I'm soooo nervous that I just did something terrible to my baby. :-( Hopefully it's not toxic in small doses!

Good that you found out, most thinks like that need to be pretty high dose, I'm sure your totally fine. One thing you could do is make sure to drink loads of water today to flush out and dilute your system. Good for you anyways!

Oh my! I never thought about stuff like that! My favorite new tea is a chocolate tea with chickory in it, the chickory tastes SO good, but I think I'll stop drinking that for now! I knew there was some reason I picked rooibos this morning!
Wait, I hope rooibos is safe!

Oh no! I've been drinking root beer in the am, because it helps me settle my stomach. I looked up the brand I drink and not only does it have licorice, it also has caffeine. POOP!

i think one thing to remember is general to help keep some perspective, is that just having a flavoring amount of something in a larger food item is very very different than taking a medicinal amount of something, drinking te with licorice in it as one of 8 ingredients is very different that drinking super strong straight licorice tea or an extract.

i feel this applies to many things we worry about. now if you have a good alternative and it is 6 of one 1/2 dozen of another pick the safer one, but i dont think i'll stop putting cinnamon in my french toast or a anything because cinnamon is also an issue, i will however and already have, stop taken capsules of it to assist with my insulin. its all about scale and extremes,
