I'm just starting to prepare a stash for our little one, due in March, and because I haven't been in the loop for a long time (over a year), am feeling a little lost. I bought Kissaluvs fitteds and prefitteds from GMAR to go with our Japanese flats and wool covers for the newborn period, but want to prepare for the next stage (S-M), too. I want mostly fitteds and wool. So here are my questions for the sages:

1) I loved El bees when they weren't so crazy expensive and impossible to buy. Is there anything comparable (simple, natural, trim, T&T, standard sizing, etc)? I thought I'd found it in Little Beetles, but now I read they are bulky and hard to dry and have a wide crotch. Hmmm. Not exactly El bees...**though this may have been before the LB Lites came out** If Fireflys were turned and topstitched around the legs, I think that would be it, but I hate the red marks from twisted-in ruffles. ANy ideas?

2) How does one go about judging softness of soakers and longies? Isn't it highly likely you'll get something that's scratchy? And are all the good ones super pricey? I'll happily pay $30 for a FuzEasy, but man, $60 for a diaper cover is too much for me!

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

warmly,
i am hunting elbees on the tp. still $$$ imo.
the wool in the longies and soakers i have is supersoft stuff. not scratchy at all. i have bought from www.tiskinstrousers.com and loved them. i have a pair on the way in fact. leisha's prices are fair, her work is awesome. she let me be picky too
my lil ones longies from last year are on her pics page scroll down and see the blueberry with lime hearts on the bum and lime cuffs.
i'm getting some mango bellbottoms soon...can't wait.
anyhow, i have made my own too from sweaters and they have not been scratchy, but i prefelted them. if you sew they are really easy.
hth,
good luck on the dipe hunt.
Dew Drop Diapers, hands down. They run big though so order a size smaller

Dew Drop, huh? I haven't been able to find them on Diaperpin or anywhere else on the internet. Do you have a link, Goddess3?

And I'll be checking out Firsthappyfamily and Tiskintrousers. Thanks for the tips.

Anyone else have a good replacement, or another T&T fitted you like?

Hmm, she used to sell on Midday Faire, but I don't see her anymore.

And firsthappyfamily is pulling up nothing on Ebay. Hmmm. Maybe that answers my question. There IS nothing available like El bees. Maybe they're just too labor-intensive to produce at a good price?

lisa has a new baby and isn't on midday faire right now. but i have to second the recommendation for her dipes. i only have a used elbee, so it may not be a fair comparison, but i actually prefer the dewdrops we have. mine are velour and organic velour and they are as cute as they are good diapers (if that makes any sense). they're my dh's diapers of choice because they're easy to put on for him and they don't leak. i'm sorry i don't have a full stash of them, they're just that good.

Here's an old firsthappyfamily auction on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=7709743496

Luxe and Bottombumpers are the only two I have had experience which fit similar to elbees on my DD (though every kid is different). Of course this may not help too much since they are not easy to buy either, but excellent diapers IMO.

Ummmm, it is not a WAHM diaper, but from our experience with Med Long El Bees, EcoBaby Grow-with-me dipes are very close in style and fit. They are easy to come by, and very reasonable, as they are fair trade mass produced. (about $13 or $14 each) Oh, and they are organic cotton to boot!

QDPies They are very trim T&T fitteds with a unique quick dry sewn in soaker. They are my favorite fitted and they've never left a red mark.

I also remember hearing about a WAHM in canada who was doing a super trim diaper. She always had the music she was listening to when the dipe was made listed on her site. Can't remember the name for the life of me.

Very informative! Thanks, mamas! My bookmarks are growing by the minute.

QDPies don't seem to be available at the moment. I wonder if they can be made T&T.

for qdpies join her yahoo group - she was taking order thru there before she moved. they are T & T not serged but have a little ruffle. Luxe makes some of her T &T dipes with a little ruffle too and some without. firsthappyfamily from ebay was about to have a baby when she last did an auction so she's probably on babymoon. They are a great fit - better than El Bees on my DS. bottombumpers has a nb fitted instock http://www.bottombumpers.com/catalog.php?category=9

post an ISO on the trading post for the el bees and name your price, I'm sure you'll find many mamas with them in excellent condition to sell.

i haven't come across another diaper that's as trim and hardworking as the el bees.
