Elbee Fear!

Hole! Hole! Dear Lord there's a hole!

Oh I'm so sad.. crying almost (ok not that sad but still really sad).

I got a brand new heavy hemp Elbee (medium) about a month ago.. maybe two months ago but it hasn't been long and today it comes out of the dryer with a big (1/4-1/2 inch) hole in the binding on one of the wing tips! I'm devestated!

This is two fold..

1.What can I do to stop the hemorage? The elastic is not yet showing.

2.I have 14 more Elbees on their way.. I'll have them all in less than a month and I'm scared to death that this will happen to all of them!

Any advice? 1-2 months is way too soon for this to be happening! Especially with my large stash.. it was only used like twice a week. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, truthful experiences good or bad would help me emensly!

hmmm, mine has tiny holes but I just shruged and figured they would end up being a lot like Fuz fitteds. There is a higher risk with bound edges.
As far as fixing it.. Have you emailed ElBee to see if they have a "fix it" suggestion or perhaps they can fix it for you?

Dunno what to say... try fray check, perhaps? I have not had them so i don't know about the durability of the dipes as a whole but I bet (hope) that it is a bad luck anomaly and the rest of them will be fine n dandy

Well I haven't emailed her yet, she's so busy that it could take days or longer to hear back (although who knows, perhaps she'd email back ASAP now that she's not taking numbers any more) so I thought I'd come here.

I know older Elbees often have holes but I never thought I'd have one at 1-2 months, kwim? This was our "potty training" stash and now.. now I'm just afraid! I don't know what to do...
Guess what I'll be dreaming about tonight!

Thank you guys so much for answering!

I'm sure it will be ok.. think of the many MANY people that have them already and how much they adore them. I have only heard about a few holes after allll these posts about them

Maybe line dry then fluff? Or were you doing that? When fabric gets stretched in the washer (being wet and the vigerous actions) it can pull on it and stress it. Maybe that and drying is too harsh on these sensitive little buggers!

I second the line drying--in Hawaii that'll be a perfect option!

And
T good morning girls!

get out a needle and thread, thread the needle, and stitch up the hole.
I have never had a hole in anything get bigger after the old remedy of clear nailpolish. Just make sure you put enough on!!! And reapply if it looks thin.
I second either using Fray Check or clear nail polish. But, I do agree with you that it is a bit early to be getting holes, especially when the diaper has been used so few times. She is such a nice mama, I would try emailing her too, I'm sure she'll get back to you!!

i had this happen and she sent me a piece of binding per my request and i patched it up. but im big into sewing so it wasnt hard
Just a thought.
What do you have your washer set on? Reg wash or heavy duty?
I had the same thing happening to my honey boys with my washer set on Heavy duty. When I set it down a notch it helped alot.

as far as your fear I'd bring it up with laura. she's so friendly, she may ease your worries
That sounds about par for the course for binding. I've gotten scared of binding too

I have had success w/ using fray check on my Fuz fiteds, but that doesn't change the fact that there are still holes. I think if you take a needle and thread to it you will make it worse since you will be putting more holes in there w/ the needle, kwim?

Well I went ahead and put some fingernail polish on it until I can get some fray check. Thank you so much for the suggestions everyone! I suppose it is par for the course but if I have something to keep them from growing like fray check then I guess I'm not as worried as I would have been.. really had me doubting things for a while there! lol

Shelly - I always wash on the longest cycle, are you saying I should try the middle cycle?

And when I get to Hawaii I think I will try line drying.. thank you so much for answering everyone, it really helped me to hear how others were dealing with their problems.

i think this is just the nature of diapers with bindings.......... i think it stinks when it happens, but i accept it because i love the dipes so much. i guess i've just acclimated to the holes ? still sucks though. guess i'll try some fray check too

I'm like Dana, I just accpet it as something that happens with bound diapers, I wish it didn't though. I have lots of Elbees and the ones I've had since last summer and fall have binding holes. Kind of stinks after paying that much for diapers, I've thought about selling my 2 and a half dozen but I know I'd regret it when the weather gets cools again and I can't fit pants over my kids big dipe butts without any trim dipes.
