Elective first c-section

Well...it looks like it's time for me to stop reading my other DD board! lol

Scenario...first baby and she doesn't like pain (show me someone who does!?!)

Well, if someone doesn't like pain, I think I would go with a vaginal birth and an epi over a c-section. Anyone here had a painless c-section? I was pretty sure the recovery on those is rough from all I have heard.
That's what totally baffles me ... let's see, major abdominal surgery or letting my body do what it was made to do? How on earth could the balance tip in favor of a c-section?!
So she's so afraid of the pain of childbirth that she'd like to opt for a procedure that'll give her more pain in the aftermath?

Smart thinking.

I know someone whose incision got infected, it took her 9 months before everything cleared up and healed. And then there are still the aches and pains at the site afterwards. I'll take that vaginal birth please...

That's exactly what I was thinking. I heard the most horrifying story about a girl's infected incision. She talked about packing it with gauze and having to have it changed daily. I was <-> this close to throwing up just reading it.

And talk about the women who still have tenderness at their incision site years later. Many of the women I talk to from when Logan was born (4+ years ago) still have that tenderness. I guess the idea of never having to feel labor seems worth it but I have yet to hear of a women who has had a NEEDED c-section say they would have chosen one for sake of a 'painless' birth.

as someone who had an emergency csection... to elect to have one, for no other reason than not liking pain, is complete ignorance. Someone who shouldn't have a child at all. Why didn't they adopt?
Mostly, you know - this makes me sad. The distrust in our bodies, and in birth is such a pervasive part of our culture. The birth horror stories are so rampant, it sometimes all seems so hopeless, even for a birth professional/activist/soap box kinda gal like myself. It is so easy to forget when we are part of a little microcosm like MDC (or my own active birthing community)- that things like the midwifery model, responsibility for self-education and empowerment and faith in ourselves and our bodies is just not the norm for most of our peers.

What a moron. For the lack of a better word.
:

I remember watching A Baby Story a few months ago where this vain little girl opted for a c-section because she doesn't like to "be out of control". Whatevah.

Well, both my c-sections I recovered from within 2 weeks.. but I'd love to have the chance to have a vaginal birth.

Just had to add this to the thread. This was a response....

"My scar almost 6 years later you cant even see it. Just think of the nice tight who-ha you get to keep
"

So there you have it....us vaginal delivery women are stuck with loose hoo-has. LOL

As a survivor of an emergency c-section, I can tell you the woman is a total moron. I was literally in tears during my ultrasound 2 weeks ago because she had to push on my scar to get a reading. The skin around the scar is thin and was bleeding a bit when I left, and is still really sore and weeping. My c-section was 3.5 years ago. If my baby goes full term, I have almost zero chance of a vaginal birth due to my own physiology. (I was only 4 lbs at birth...some things were wrong)

I would do almost anything to have a normal, healthy vaginal birth.

Painless recovery is nearly a myth. Not only is it painful, but if you have something go wrong, even something as simple as an infected stitch or a reaction to the adhesive on the bandage can cause an enourmous amount of misery. Plus, it is really rough to breastfeed. I can't imagine chosing a c over a vaginal birth.
Well, my vagina faired just fine after pusing out nearly 10 lbs. Course, that was my first. LOL Maybe I won't do as well with a second? LOLOL Okay, I am sorry, but truly roflmao... that is just something I would never even think to think about!!!
Emergency c-section here, and believe me it was NOT pain free. I was on pain meds for 2-3 weeks, still have pain on my scar with DS digs his feet into my scar when we nurse (UGH!). Every woman should know that in order to get the baby out they have to take a lot of your insides OUT - that means your intestines, organs, etc. No wonder passing that first BM after birth is so unbelievably painful. And that was after the Demerol.

What I would give to have had a successful vaginal birth.

ummmm....maybe I am a rarity but DH commented on how I was tighter after DD was born and the sex has been so much better since I had her.

I hope hope hope someone will chime in and tell her what a bad idea an elective c-section is.

The first week I literally could not move two inches sideways in bed without excruciating pain. I could not sleep on my back because I felt like my scar was ripping open. I had to take drugs for several days to deal with the pain. By about two weeks I was hobbling around like a bent over old lady, but at least I was up and about. I think it was about that time that I could finally start taking care of my baby. And my recovery was "good"- I had no infection, a nice-looking scar, as scars go...
I don't get it.

Here's a hint to who I am: I am the WIC advocate who started the "arguement" about WIC not just being for the poor.

I haven't posted in awhile but if you have read that board for sometime then you may know who I am.

I SAW THAT ONE!!!
:

um - two vaginal deliveries, no complaints about the hoo-ha. Is the word vagina uncool to use? I hear hoo-ha and think of PB&J Otter and the theme song about Lake Hoo-Ha
