My mother is coming to spend the weekend with us and will be staying in my bedroom, and using the master bath. Our walk-in shower is just giving me the devil of a time. I chose, like an idiot, white grout and CANNOT get it clean enough. I don't want to use something that will make me pass out while scrubbing, though. I tried baking soda yesterday and it did okay, but I'm getting desperate. Any suggestions????

ETA: where do i go to buy borax?

I buy Borax in the laundry aisle at my grocery store. I would try Oxyclean or another oxygen bleach (Ecover makes a great one) on the tile. If this is a true emergency (ie. my clean freak mother
) I might be tempted to try very diluted Clorox bleach in a squirt bottle. HTH.

Mixing a paste of peroxide and cream of tartar is supposed to work very well (so I've heard from multiple sources, never tried it myself). Make a paste and scrub with an old toothbrush. After it dries, wipe it clean (there may be a film that will wipe right off).

Well, Soft Scrub With Bleach (it says exactly that on the bottle!) removed 10 years worth of nicotine build-up on the white grout and white tile in the bathroom at my Dad's house last weekend, with very little effort on my part! Whiter-than-white for both the grout and the tile. Looks brand new.

Normally, I don't like commercial products, but sometimes, there is no other way!!!

Another great idea: Hard water mineral deposits on glass shower doors come off like a breeze with rubbing compound (get it in the automotive aisle at Wal-Mart, etc). Not the polishing compound, you want the stronger abrasive of the rubbing stuff. I couldn't believe it!! Very little effort and amazing results.

I thought I was going to have to replace the shower door with new glass (at over $200). After using the rubbing compound, the door looks just like new and I saved some money! The realtor commented she really liked the new shower door, and couldn't believe it, either, when I told her it was the original, 39-year old door.
