There is a thread around here somewhere (maybe even stickied in the resources up there?) about what everyone loves about being a single mama. Very inspiring!

I've read through parts of it several times if I'm having a bad day, and it always lifts me up.

Check out Ms. Single Mama's links page: http://mssinglemama.com/single-mom-links/

She has TONS of awesome single parent (mamas & papas) blogs, a few of which I also follow and love! Additionally, she has lots of other great single parent resources listed there.

you know something even though i have been a single mama since dd was 18 months old,

i have never seen myself as a single mama.

its more about me as a 'who am i" feeling.

so my resources have been quite different.

for instance for me being home a long time meant down adn depressive.

the hardest times were my bestest times because i was on my own spiritual journey.

at different times different stories helped inspire me.

being in nature inspired me.

being amongst children - playing with them and being silly inspired me.

my biggest inspiration was the artist's way by julia cameron.

for me what helped was understanding that my way of getting thru hard days was 'doing' rather than 'being'. so my inspiration did not come from stories. but a lot from people watching and knowing myself. i discovered how much i really really loved going to the theater. perhaps its because i am a 'live in the head' person. i am a book person. however during hard times i discovered living in the head was getting depressing.

but even going out and really 'seeing' teh world around me was sooooooo inspiring. i went on more nature hikes, journaled and contemplated. i read more biographies/autobiogs. i volunteered and somehow somewhere in there discovered life wasnt as bad or hard as i thought it might be.

in fact being 'outside' i saw these miracles happen all around me. a smilie from someone, a comment from someone, stranger paying our bill, stranger just giving us stuff for the heck of it - i really discovered the miracles around me.

and it was a life long lesson i had. it changed me completely. its been over 6 years and i have never been 'down there' to that level of despair again. ever. even for a moment.
