Professional actress/singer

2. did you ever become what you wanted to be when you grew up?
I did for a while...I sang in college, made some cd's, did some professional theater and film/commercials. Then I quit "the biz" and went to graduate school, where I still am.

Oh boy. Growing up my parents called me Mitch or Mitchy or Mitchers. ick.

Well, I read all the time for school but for FUN I'm currently reading Runes of the Earth (Stephen Donaldson, latest in the Thomas Covenant series!!)

5. what's the best book you've read in recent memory?
My brother is a novelist (unpublished so far but on his way) - it would have to be one of his.

6. favorite magazines?
Hm...People? Something juicy and gossipy. LOL

7. where do you live and do you like it there?
I live in a suburb of Philadelphia, and I really do like it here. It could be a bit more diverse (we're the only family of any kind of color within a big radius), but I love it for lots of other reasons.

8. if you could live anywhere, where would that be and why?
Probably a different suburb of Philadelphia...I really love the general area, and I tend to not stray far from the nest. LOL I grew up in a different suburb of Philly...maybe I'd move back there!!

9. what do you love to do when you're by yourself? (keep it clean ladies )
Sit. LMAO!!! seriously, though...just sit...and read or listen to music or watch stupid tv...when i have nothing to do, i really like to do NOTHING.

I like Corona a LOT. i don't drink often but when I do, i love Corona with lime. otherwise, I love water with lots of ice...iced coffee...and cranberry juice. not all together. LOL

11. what do you waste money on?
hm...not much, honestly...I don't like spending money...i get nervous. i guess fast food? but not much recently...

12. what would your friends say they love best about you?
hm...maybe that i'm nice? or funny? man, i don't know...

hate sports. no athletic ability at all. none. don't even like to watch. ew.

A paleontologist, specifically dinosaurs.

Pretty close! I'm a geophysicist. I'm a university professor, so I teach and do research. My research involves squeezing rocks to see how they behave under the high pressure conditions of the Earth's interior.
3. what are your nicknames?
On MDC, "geo". IRL, nothing, and I actually kinda dislike it when people try to nickname me.
4. what's the last book you read? (and when?)
Lifting a ton of feathers by Caplan. Finished a few nights ago.

Hmmm, trying to remember the title. Errr, I guess that doesn't put it "in recent memory....

Central Ohio. No, we don't really like it here. We love our house and neighbors, but we don't particularly like the city.

Mothering, of course! I also like looking through Philadelphia magazine.

I live in the Philly suburbs. It's grown on me quite a bit since we got here, and I think I officially now like it.

Durham, North Carolina. DH and I went to college there and LOVE LOVE everything about it, except what they pay teachers and how far it is from our families...why we're here instead.

I live in Boston. We love our neighbors and 'hood, but I have a hard time adapting to the winters.

An actress or a lawyer... same thing, right?

I did summer stock theater for a while, but the long hours and little pay put me off to going to New York or LA to act. I did some commercials, I competed in interpretation events in college and won 3rd and 4th place in the nation doing so (out of 200 schools and thousands of entries). I went into Arts Management for my BA. Then, went back for a MS in Instructional Technology/Communications. Did the techinical thing for a while, but with kids I wanted to "sequence." Now I teach at a local college in Communications (public speaking, interpersonal, oral interpretation, etc). I teach part time. I also own www.heartfelted.com but that's on hold until I feel better. And, I'm LLL leader, but with a 3rd babe and not feeling well I haven't been doing anything LLL for a while. I'm not sure I'll go back as a leader when I return.
3. what are your nicknames?
My parents chose Claire because it didn't have any obvious nicknames. That said, I've been called Chocolate E. (as in E'clair) off and on.
4. what's the last book you read? (and when?)
The last book I read was Berfgdorf Blondes, last week. It was total escapist fun! Ooh, like E!, but literary! :LOL

I just don't smell. (BTW, this isn't just me talking, this has been confirmed by MANY people... not just those trying to be nice!) I sometimes think that maybe in earlier times my mother and I would be considered some kind of deity for not smelling... but that's just in my day dreams!!! :LOL

Many things...most notably an orphan but alas it was not to be (you can thank movies like Annie and Natty Gan). Astronaut made the top of this list for many years in the 80s - I even went to Space Camp in Huntsville Alabama when I was 11...then I found out I was claustrophobic!! Next was an anthropologist which I did get my first degree in but then (or should I say through anthro) I found my real passion...

2. did you ever become what you wanted to be when you grew up?
(if not, what sort of career or activities did/do you do?)

In a way I did...it was just that I didn't have a name for what I really wanted to do. As a child I was always flipping through my mum's maternity textbooks and sticking a pillow under my shirt. I discovered the existence of midwifery through anthropology and have never looked back...

From childhood: Mrs. Bilinski, Captain Bill's sister, Cool in the gang, cool hogger, bells, and kelinskia..dont' ask - weird family...

once there was a day that you could see my floor... when my son was THREE (and very verbal mind you) he saw me get out the mop to clean a box of baking soda that fell off the shelf and he pointed to the mop and said "Mom, what's that???" he was totally serious! When he was four, he asked me what linoleum was. i told him it was the stuff on our kitchen floor. he said: " oh, a kind of a dirt then???" so... i guess at least no one will ever accuse me of ignoring my children for housework!

the web for sure. also, i page thru food and restaurant coupons over and over trying to pick what i might use, but never do. we can never afford to go out!

my uncle jerry -- the biggest heart that ever lived, the most positive guy you've ever met. as for someone famous, my hero was always helen keller (talk about overcoming adversity!) and now i'm in awe of all first time novelists who get their book sold. (i'm sorry, but JK Rowling is a total mama goddess! she deserves to be richer than the Queen!)

well of course i wanted to be an actress...and i also had the astronaut bug after seeing Space Camp

...then I moved on to doctor / psychologist...but all the while i honestly knew that what i really wanted was to be a wife and mom - not a popular thing for a girl to announce btw...i was the valedictorian of my high school and everyone thought i would be a huge success - which i think i am but you know...

I have a BS in Psychology and Sociology and spent about 6 months working as a case worker for adult schizophrenics which was terribly scary when I was 21 and just out of college so I went back to get a Masters but had to make due with the local college (major family stuff I couldn't walk away from...story of my life) which only offered an MBA program - which I never wanted but I went ahead and got it since it was available. During that time I worked at the college in student life then when I finished I started working as a fund raiser for non-profits and found out I was really good at it and really liked it - so I was doing that up until my water broke with Jake (literally - I was at a fund raising party at the time

). and yes - i eventually became what i really wanted to be

But I stay involved with the stuff I did before babies by serving on a couple non profit boards and helping with fund raising etc.

In Canada: Halifax, NS our best friends are there and we love the city;

You know..I don't remember. Maybe a librarian?? But I took art lessons for a while so maybe an artist?

Well, I have a degree in Elementary Education, taught 6th grade for a year+ in inner city Philly and have been a graphic artist (well actually the entire graphics department) for a biomedical research institute for the last 11+yrs. So maybe I did since I'm sort of an artist.

I'm reading a trashy romance right now called Full Bloom by Janet Evanovich, I reread The Red Tent a few weeks ago and also am in the midst of reading The Thinking Woman's Guide by Henci Goer...ooo I also just finished What Your Dr did NOT tell you about Vaccines by Stephanie Cave. I commute by train 1hr each way to work ... have LOTS of time to read!

5. what's the best book you've read in recent memory?
I have so many! A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Snowcrash (Neal Stephenson), Ender's Game and Pastwatch (Orson Scott Card)...and so many others!

Games

7. where do you live and do you like it there?
Suburban Philly and we most definitely like it here. I grew up on Long Island and although it's nice to visit wouldn't live there again at all...waaaay too crowded and congested. I love Philly, the city, the burbs...lots to do and we are far enough away from family that we won't kill each other!

8. if you could live anywhere, where would that be and why?
We are pretty happy right here... I did want to live in England for a while though.

READ!, vegetate, check my email and message boards online...

Milk, water, ginger ale, ginger ale and orange juice... alcoholic (when not pg) Lindemann's Framboise which is technically a Belgium Beer brewed w/ raspberries but taste sooo much better than beer!

Books and junk we don't need

Loyal, dependable... geez I sound like a dog! I also will do practically anything for a friend.

Watch - Ice Hockey (when the NHL is playing) as well as minor league .. Philly Phantoms just won their cup!!

My mom... she battled breast cancer for 10yrs before dying 15yrs ago.

I'm 37yo, a mom to a wonderful little girl, and wife to an outstanding hubby and daddy. I do my best to do what is right for them and me, volunteer time (CPST+other things), do research into what I don't feel I know andreallydon't eat as well as I should!

1. when you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A forest ranger or marine biologist. I told my parents that I would hate having an "office job."

2. did you ever become what you wanted to be when you grew up?
Nope. I had several jobs in offices and hated them all, although I met many nice people who were my coworkers. Nowadays my childhood careers don't quite fit me but my love of the outdoors is the same. I dream of the day when I can buy acreage and live off the land like a pioneer! It would be a place where children in the fostercare system or other local kids in need of love and support could come for friendships, mentoring, and fun with animals in the great outdoors. Don't really have any.

4. what's the last book you read? (and when?)
The Mystic Rose by Stephen Lawhead, last week. It's set in medieval times; a strong-willed woman from Scotland goes on a journey to the Holy Land. A real page-turner.

Wild at Heart by John Eldredge. Absolute best book I've ever read next to the Bible itself. Really powerful and life-changing.

7. where do you live and do you like it there?
In northwestern Washington State. It's beautiful here. We live 2 minutes from the ocean (Puget Sound/San Juans) and an hour from great skiing (Mt. Baker). Perfect!

Either here or in Hungary (where my family is from) but on acreage.

9. what do you love to do when you're by yourself?
Read or garden.

Cold-brewed (toddy) coffee!
