Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate) for constipation?

1627 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  lindberg99
I came accross some place online that said a couple teaspoons of Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate) dissolved in a little water, will make you have bowel movements and relieve constipation, but without giving you painful cramping pains, is this true?

ETA -this is for myself, an adult, NOT child.

My DH can't bathe in Epsom salts for this very reason! It gives him the poops right away, lol.
Even taking a bath with a largish handful of Epsom salts may be helpful.

There are directions on the container of Epsom salts for how much to use in water for laxative purposes.
Children can use it too, at least according to the bag I have.

You can also use it as a soak for bruises, in the bath and to fertilize your outdoor plants. (At least those are the uses I can remember from my bag of it.)
