morning mamas. we were getting novelish there, so i thought i'd start a new thread again.

so, where are some new babies? i'm workin' on producing mine, but i think it will be at least a few more days if not next week. who knows. some contractions again last night, but nothing this morning (nothing that i can feel anyway).

i'm not feeling impatient, have tons of energy, and finally feel like i can just focus on day to day stuff for the first time in weeks. maybe its the stress of having the "I" word mentioned, then retracted that is making me feel so much better. the walks have really helped too. i know it seems insane that i could enjoy it given how pregnant i am (and we all are), but its really been great.

ravin - sounds like you are feeling better. splurge for the almonds. not only will they help your tummy, they should help your bp too (all that protein). can you get them in bulk somewhere so that they are cheaper? yikes about the rape. scary. oh, and dh should clean the tub out for you!

STRESS RELIEVERS -

movies - couldn't agree more. i've watched 'waiting for guffman' and 'best in show' twice each and just got them out from the library...AGAIN. we also watched 'zoolander' which was really funny. i LOVE will farrell. last night we watched 'the royal tanenbaums' which was really good. not so much funny, but very mellow. a soothing movie. it was actually the movie we saw on our first 'date' after ella was born (she must have been close to a year before we had a date).

baths - i've been taking 1-3 baths a day...often with dd. i've been using my favorite bubble bath (belle mira herbal bath) and also some bath salts. sooooo nice. i've been adding clary sage to the water too, which is supposed to help stimulate labor.

massage - dh is a saint. he's been giving me backrubs almost every night since we became pregnant with dd back in 2000! i recently got a ton of yoga/massage/new age sort of cds from the library, copied them to my imac (which is in our bedroom)...and now at night i light this candle my aunt gave me, turn off all the lights, and dh gives me a backrub. its supposed to lead up to hanky panky, but the last two nights i've fallen asleep during (the massage, not the hanky panky! hee hee).

pampering - going to a salon was a real treat this weekend. i also bought some of those dove hydrating facials to bring to the hospital...but broke them open last night. sooo nice! i put some in a plastic bag for the hospital, but the rest i'm going to use at home as a special treat. having some nice smelling body/face mists around have also helped. made them for labor, but have been using them anyway. just get a spritz bottle, some distilled water, and add some of your favorite essential oils (just a few drops - lavendar, rose, jasmine, clary sage are all good for pg women at our stage).

walks - since i was diagnosed with gestational diabetes 2 weeks ago, i've been trying to walk at least a mile a day. i don't drive, so i have always walked a lot (and biked too). anyway, its done wonders for my stress level, has made me feel strong and able, has given me time to sort through my concerns and fears, helped clear my head, etc.

today we have our toddler class. i missed last week because i was feeling too stressed to go, but today i'm excited. i got up at 6am, took a shower, shaved my legs and painted my toes (how did i reach? i have no idea), rubbed my belly with lotion and talked to my baby, then made breakfast. we head off to toddler class in an hour or so. its about 3 miles away, so i'm going to carpool there...then walk back with dd in the stroller.

oh - PREGNANT IMPULSE MOMENT - i upgraded our cell phone service last night to a shared plan. we have one cell phone and we justify the cost by what we had been paying for long distance before we had the cell (which has free long distance). we used to pay at least $40 a month in long distance (since most of our family live out of state). the cell is $40 with free long distance, plus the convenience of having a cell. anyway, i upgraded without telling dh. its an extra $20 a month, but we get unlimited calls between home and the 2 cells, free long distance, shared voice mail, etc. i sound like a cell phone salesperson now. hee hee. anyway, i think i did it because i was nervous about getting ahold of dh if i go into labor during the day. he was taking the one cell phone with him to work...but since i've been taking all these walks and hikes with just myself and dd, he wanted me to have it with me just in case. anyway, the new phone should get here tomorrow! wonder which will come first now...the baby or the phone? hee hee.

mamaley - you asked about my contractions. i JUST had one, so it made me remember your question. i have three sensations going on. the first, is this rush that tightens my chest. this i think is oxytocin, since it feels the same as the rushes i got when i was first breastfeeding dd. usually, within a few minutes, that is followed by a contraction that tightens my whole belly. they are not painful at all, so sometimes i don't really notice it until it starts to ebb away. some i can feel more in my lower back, but overall they aren't even that noticable until they start to go away...and then i think 'oh, i was just contracting!' the third sensation are the contractions that i'm sure are my cervix openning more, or softening more. these actually hurt a little. not exactly sharp pain, but not dull either. noticable for sure. does this help?

oh, question - i'm leaking milk/colostrum. anyone else??

mamapenelope, sorry to hear about your bad night. I still have some leftover nausea/vomiting going on too. The hard rock feeling in your throat probably means you over-irritated your esophagus, or injured it slightly. It is not fun, but should go away in a day or so. Eat really soft food and give yourself a lot of love today.

Marmarsupial, you have inspired me to go out and start walking a little more. I mean, I have had no discernable exercise since July. It has been so HOT here. Now it is less hot in the evenings, so if I can I'm going to start trying to waddle around the block a few times. It's just that I live in an old neighborhood with cracked hex-block sidewalks that were laid in 1919 (so they say) so not seeing my feet can be something of a liability. I might just ask dh to come with me and push ds in a stroller or the wagon.

My son's 3rd birthday is Friday so I need to go figure out what I need for his party. It's going to be a very low key affair since all he cares about is that there is a cake, and balloons, lots of balloons. I think I can manage that much

Penelope i'm sorry you're feeling sick. i hope you're feeling better today. are you going to let your midwife/dr know how much you've been throwing up? they might want to check you out. i don't know what would be causing that, is there something going around? i know that nausea can be apart of prelabor, but sheesh!

halah, happy (early) birthday to your big boy!

I am so tired. Where's my boost of energy??

Autumn, I painted my toes this morning too! I think I'll tell people that my 3 yo did it though.
Has anyone else given up on shaving?

I have been having some hardcore rectal pressure. It happened in Target...thank god no one was in the aisle with me :LOL
In other news, my mom says that she has been having "strong feelings" since Sunday that something is about to happen. She said she was guessing it would be tomorrow, but that is her birthday so I don't think that's really what she thinks. Then she said this weekend. We'll see...I think she's trying to use logic though, because in her mind there is no way that I can be experiencing prelabor for over a week and not go at any time. She's funny...but hopefully she's right, too!

I bought a cd with relaxing classical music on it for labor, and am downloading some ocean sounds. Maybe they'll help relax me? Either way, it will be good to have them on hand during labor.

Here are some pictures of Scout. Dh made the site.

http://min.midco.net/scout_james/scout_james.html

I'll get around to typing up the birth story. Her umbilical cord fell off yesterday. It freaked out Dh and he tried to tape it back on with a bandaid because at first it was just barely hanging on.

Hang in there mamas! Sending you all lots of labor vibes.

Anybody else feel like they will never actually have their baby? I sure do! I am 39 weeks 4 days, and I feel nothing! No mucus, no baby dropping, no strong contractions, nothing!

I guess I should be glad I have some time, because my husband just sprained his ankle playing soccer, and I want to give it some time to heal before the baby's born. We've been joking that it's good that they will bring a wheelchair when we check into the hospital, because he is going to need it! But even despite his ankle, I just want this baby NOW!

Jamie, Scout is absolutely beautiful!!

Hypatia, I'm right there with you. My body has been "working" for a little over a week now, and i'm 39 weeks today, but I still don't see it happening in the near future. I can't wait to hold her.

Does it count as nesting if you have an intense need for your house to be clean but you don't want to do any of it yourself? :LOL

I have an intense need for my 2ce a month housecleaner to get here tomorrow! It was my 3rd trimester gift to myself, and I'm seriously going to find a way to get him to come once a week until the baby's born....I love a clean house, hate housework more than ever!!!

Jamie, thanks for sharing your pictures of beautiful Scout. The name suits her wonderfully. And she looks so peaceful and darling...looking forward to those warm & fuzzy newborn days...

Lisa Lynn, just to let you know I saw your posted birth story on the last thread...I'm amazed you could type all that out in such detail...It sounded like quite an ordeal with the preeclampsia but I'm just glad that you and Orion made it through OK and are safe at home now. Your dh sounds like a sweetheart!

hee hee, mamaley! i hear ya. my nesting urges lasted about 12 hours...and now i'm ready to crawl in bed and eat popcorn and watch funny movies and let people wait on me. where ARE all those servants anyway?

dh is a saint. have i mentioned this? i felt really emotional and exhausted this afternoon, a short fuse with dd. dh came home, took dd to the park. she feel asleep on the way back...napped while dh gave me a back rub...had a little romance (my cervix is effacing, but a little extra help can't hurt, right?).

jaime - scout is gorgeous! what would be half way between st. paul and minot? we should hang out!

omg, i am so exhausted. i can't even describe how tired i am. can fatigue be a sign of labor coming? lol. the exact opposite of the energy burst...

and i am so glad to hear that i'm not the only one who desperatley needs a maid!

autumn, you're the one who likes best in show, right? i heard that a mighty wind is coming out on video soon...i think that would be a good prelabor movie! i wanted to see it in the theatre but didn't get a chance. my dh swears that we saw one of the guys in those movies....is his name michael mckean? i'm so tired...at a hotel when we were in san diego...he was freaking out, nudging me, as this man was smiling at our ds, and i guess it was him! I didn't recognize him though. i bet we looked pretty silly though, because dh was elbowing me to death, trying to look subtle, and i kept looking at him and saying "what?". :LOL

Same here! I was talking to a friend who had hers at 37 weeks, and I said I don't think mine is coming anytime soon--I feel great. She said she had no idea hers was coming either--she felt great--and then she kept having contractions and decided to go to the hospital finally. She was supposed to have a homebirth, but was confused because she didn't expect to go to into labor so soon. So she walked in at 10 cm and delivered her baby. You just never know, I guess.

Hey, you are 39 weeks and 4 days, Hypatia? I think that is what I am. Do we share the same due date? I don't see you on the list.

Mamapenelope, sorry you've been sick. When I had a gastrointestinal illness where I vomited for two days, the baby was quiet for a long time afterward. Glad your wee one is moving now!

Amy, that's a cool story about your friend! Were her contractions strong? Can you imagine just being checked and being 10cm?

I wonder when I'll have the baby. With ds, I made so many mistakes, had no idea what I was doing. I went to the hospital way too early and my pitocin happy OB went ahead and admitted me and then induced me. So anyway, I never went into labor naturally with him, so to speak...I mean, who knows, what I thought was labor could have been prelabor. : I wish i could go back in time and slap myself. Oh well. Anyway, I'm glad I'm doing it this way this time around. I'm glad I'm being patient, and just letting things happen. But on the other hand, it's so hard for me to imagine it actually happening! It's hard to imagine having regular, strong contractions--how will they start? When? Where will we be? (I have too much time on my hands...). I'm actually having some contractions right now. They're short though, and mild. Maybe I'll time them, just for the heck of it.

Does it seem almost unreal to anyone else that you're having a baby? You'd think since I've done it before it wouldn't feel that strange, but in ways it does. I'm really excited, and I want so badly to hold her, but in some ways it just doesn't seem real.

Hi, everyone! I feel like I'm going to be pregnant forever, too. I have no right to complain, though, since I've got another week until my due date.

Had a great MW appt, though. The head is engaged! She's now ROP, but at least she's not totally posterior. She still seems moveable so I'm going to work at getting her over to the left side.

Mamapenelope, sorry you and your family have been so sick. What a huge stressor. I hope you're feeling better!

All you who want to do housecleaning should join forces with my dh. He went to town with the organzing and straightening this weekend. We have 2xmnth cleaning ladies and the got the dirt dealt with. I managed to clean out the fridge yesterday, wipe it down and all, but it did me in. I really want to clean the laundry room but I can't find a good enough reason.

Feeling positive and certainly have more energy than I did last week. The only problem I have right now is I can't get DH to have sex! I know he's a little intimidated by my size--it's been at least 6 weeks since we dtd--but I didn't expect to get turned down EVERYNIGHT!

I know he's a little intimidated by my size--it's been at least 6 weeks since we dtd and I am way bigger than I was back then--but I didn't expect to get turned down EVERY NIGHT! I keep telling him I'm not that concerned about it being super romantic or anything, but it's for the effort! How awful can it be?? Sheesh.

Apple, your baby Scout is just about the most beautiful baby I've ever seen. Just lovely. She seems so peaceful! Is that the case?

Hang in there mamas! Almost there!

For those still waiting for A Mighty Wind to come out on video, here is some comedic refreshment...the latest installment of my haywire pregnancy brain...

My husband had taken ds to Lowe's with him to get some items to spruce up our backyard for the birthday party. He called me to say he couldn't fit the new lawnchairs and our son's carseat into the VW (tiny) wagon, would I please drive over and take Dante home. So, I grab my keys and slip on my shoes and go over there. We drove separately to this awesome burger joint for a quick dinner, but ds acts so crazy that my husband took him home early and left me to read my new Mothering mag and pay the bill.

On my way out, I was hiding the ketchup stains on my white blouse with the magazine, hoping no one I know sees me, and I wonder why I'm waddling so funny. I waddle, but this felt like one leg had suddenly gotten shorter than the other! "what a weird symptom of pregnancy" I thought as I made it to the car and drove home. When I got home I felt the same weird uneven-leg sensation as I walked up to my door, and when I peered over my belly at my long-lost feet....

...I found I was wearing two different shoes, a brown clog and a black sandal.

Yikes! They are both made by Naot and have the same comfy insole, so it wasn't immediately noticeable when I slipped into them under the desk! I must have looked like such a complete idiot!!!

Anyway my husband and I had the best laugh over that. He says the oxygen is going to my baby and depriving my brain.
(now I am REALLY glad I didn't meet anyone I know!)
