Soooo, after posting this I'm going to go and find as many 'happy daycare' threads as I can. Dd (16 months today) completely lost her mind at drop-off.

I stood there doing the 'do I stay? do I go?' dance and the care providers were 'go, go, we promise she'll be okay'.

Now I know why parents sneak out - so they don't have to witness that.

I'm going to wait 45 minutes and call and see how she's doing. I so wish this wasn't necessary, but I start work in a week or so and she has to be acclimated.

Also, it was like asking them to feed her rat poison when I dragged out her sippy cup of water (it's actually a Playtex straw cup); I know they're working on teaching toddlers to drink out of open cups, but dd has GERD and needs to drink a LOT of water throughout the day.

How can I make sure they're giving it to her frequently? I mean, I trust them - but I also know how busy it is. Maybe I'll mention to the director that it's really important for her to drink lots all day.

I'd really push the sippy cup thing. Every day. And I"d watch her output at home to make sure it's normal. We've had on-going problems with dd (14 months) not getting enough to drink during the day. I pick her up before 5 usually and she's gone until 9 the next morning without peeing even with bfing, milk and water in the evening.

Daycare is really tough but don't assume, just since you trust them, that they "get it" when it comes to the cup. Your lo's health is really important and sometimes others just don't understand.

My DS is 14 months and he loves daycare. Once they get into the routine and establish a relationship with the caregivers, it seems most kids really like it. Give it time, she'll adjust. I'll bet she was great not long after you left.
