I need a pattern for a kid's cardigan that knits up quick on big needles and is doable for a beginner (I have knitted two hats and some booties)-- maybe is free or in a book where I can find it at the library or purchase cheaply? Thanks. My 4 year-old wants me to knit her one and isn't big on patience.

Hi Monica...I'm currently working on this toddler cardigan/jacket. The only downside is that the particular yarn called for in the pattern is hard to find and not cheap...however, I found a good source, a woman who sells through an eBay store, her username/store name is "toadal." She worked with me to find a colorway that I liked. I highly suggest emailing her if you're interested in tracking down that yarn or a similar one.

The only other thing I would mention about the pattern is that is says size 17/10mm needles...and size 17 is actually 12 mm...I found that I got the right gauge using size 15 needles.

But the bulky yarn is wonderful, it knits up SO FAST!!

So far, so good. I had to rip out over half the sleeve I knitted b/c I cast on the wrong number of stitches--aaargh--but at least it doesn't take that long to get back to where I was.

The pattern is super easy...and it's been good to practice increasing on the sleeves, since the seam is on the underside of the arm, hopefully the holes won't show.
But I think I've gotten the hang of increasing without leaving a hole now.

I'm going out of town in early October and I'm determined to have it finished before then (typical of me, it's one of about a dozen projects I'm actively working on!)...I'll post a pic when it's finished!
