Holy #[email protected]#%!!! This auction is up well over 100$, for *one* cover! I just don't get the whole fuzbaby/fuzbomb/fuzgarden thing, seems lots of her stuff goes for stoopid prices. I mean, cute diapes and cute presentation and all, but it's still just a diaper (or cover in this case). Yikes!
What's the deal? Are people framing these things? Is there some allure I'm not aware of? Like do they serve coffee and hum a happy song when baby needs calming or something? I can get 7-8 high quality AOI's with doublers for that money! I'd love for someone to explain ... -scoutycat

Look at i this way - it's Haute Coture diapering. These are designer diapers - the best fabrics, hand-dyed, impeccably sewn.....and they're limited.

I don't claim to wishing for a high-priced diaper or cover like that, but then I don't think designer clothing is all that terriffic, either. When you buy designer, you are paying for the genius of the designer - their product is ART on a wearable level. Nobody HAS to buy into high-fashion. You can take it or leave it. But some people appreciate designer fashions, even for their babies. Probably ESPECIALLY for their babies. I can respect that.

So anyway - put designer diapers in with all the other high-fashion big-name design clothing, and it won't seen too terribly remarkable.
Well, I'm a big Fuz fan, but I don't really get why it's going that high either.
: Easys are $30 off the website (when they're available). I know it's a special color, but geesh, I don't even like the new wool that much.

Yes, you are correct. Ultimately it is a diaper (well, in this case, it's a diaper cover).

But...

A BMW is basically a car.
a Louis Vuitton bag is basically a purse.
A Prada sandal is basically a shoe.

And let's not forget the baby luxury brands... Ever seen the prices of a Silver Cross pram? (How does $2,000 strike you?) How bout a Zolo sling made from fine silk ($150)? Or a Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bag ($150)? Lilly Pulitzer baby dress ($68)?

You may not have the money to spend on luxury items. Or, if you do have the money, you may choose to do something else with it. To each her own...

I, for one, LOVE to watch diaper auctions go up, Up, UP! That indicates that the diaper market is alive and vibrant, that WAHMs who make beautiful and high quality products are getting a tiny bit of the recognition that they deserve. And that means that WAHM may be able to afford to sell $30 in-stock covers to those of us who can only window shop at the auction in your post!

Hear Hear!

Any of you have any idea of the kind of time & creative energy it takes to make stuff like that? She's not just whacking & serging, here. My own diapers take 26 STEPS from cutting to completion, and take over an hour apiece to make.....and Fuz diapers & covers & doublers are far more complicated construction-wise than my own, with MUCH more attention to detail. Just try to imagine the time cranking out a product like that takes.....and then consider that professional seamstresses can charge $15 per hour and UP, depending on their expertise. I would say Lori's quality is at LEAST at the $30/hour mark, if not more. That's not including materials costs, which are higher for her by choice due to her "smallering" philosophy.

Welcome to the board Scoutycat.
I think if you stick around and read all our posts about Fuz, you will understand better. Yes, it seems unreasonable, but we all love certain things and obviously the person willing to pay over $100 for a Watermelon Easy cover loves Fuz.

I don't get why ppl spend $400 on a pr of shoes either.

Well, that's beginning to make some sense! They don't look especially complicated to me, but I've never seen one IRL, and I suppose a mark of quality is to have the complexity transparent to the user. It's obvious that she has quite a following! I don't get why that one auction is so high, still, but thx for giving me an idea of why her stuff sells for more
I think it's great that someone is making reasonable or better $$ at any homebased or small buisness, far too many WAHMs (and others) underprice themselves. It's a 2 edged sword - not only do they not get what their product is worth, they drive the whole market down
Pre-baby, I ran a small biz and there were always people charging little/hour and no profit - tough competition! Can't eat on 2$/hr

Honestly, I want one! But DH just doesn't get it.

BUT I do understand it. I like nice things- I spend more than I should on a lot of things- and I understand why people would want to buy these.
This is slightly OT but since you're talking about FUZ and I've never seen one in real life...I've been wondering, I see that the covers have binding around the edges but wondering if they're wool as well. Anyone have one who can tell me? Just curious...
Okay well call me a nut cause I bid on them until they started getting too high. I agree, they are designer diapers and I am glad to see something like that thriving. Cloth diapers which are so looked down upon are selling like crazy on ebay and that's good. I love my fuzbaby fuzbomb and can't wait to aquire another but I did buy it used so that helps.

I would say is probably a *collector* of it. People will pay tons of money for things that don't even have a literal value (remember Beany Babies) & in this case the value is very obvious to people who know the quality. And price is always relative to demand. This is where I think a cottage industry like WAHM diapers really makes sense. I have been meaning to learn more about the smallering aspect, just haven't have time, but you sure can see that it works.

Yes, the binding is wool as well.
I'd love to have one, too. I honestly think that all things have the value we assign to them, and I put a higher value than others might on certain things, just as others put a higher value on certain things than I might. I think it's a good thing.
I wish I could figure out a way to tell DH that I *accidentally* spent that kind of money on a diaper cover... but so far, I'm out of ideas.

I know what you mean, but I do understand about the time and energy (creative, emotional, etc.) that go into making these things. I don't know if tehy are "worth it", literallly, but if some people place that much value on them, for their beauty and exclusiveness (as well, I'm sure, great function
) I say go for it and enjoy yourself; you're supporting a wahm who is trying to make a difference in the business world (as well as being a lovely person) and getting pleasure out of something that is super practical (much more so than Beanie Babies or Pradas and will give you joy every time you use it. I know that's what Lori is all about.
).
