x posted in finding you're tribe, MA

DD was vax'ed on schedule until I finally had the *guts* to stop. I am still considering finishing HIB, and possibly doing MMR at 5 y/o (but leaning more towards no)

anyways SIL came at me today with "Not vaxing her is neglect and DCF can take her away you know" I know for school you are suppose to have a medical or religious exemption, but do I have the right to NOT vax or choose vax's for my child in MA? she's 15 m/o now and I guess I just assumed I had the right since this is a "free country" and all.

Your SIL doesn't know what she is talking about. Of course you can NOT vax, delay vax, or whatever you want. Yes, you'll need the exemption form for school, but the state cannot take your kids away for not vaccinating.

Knowledgeably not vaccinating is NOT medical neglect.

Oh, and about the HIB, it is not on the vax schedule for older kids in Texas. I just assumed older kids did not get it anywhere. They say the disease is just not a risk for older kids, just babies. So if your child reached this age without getting it, your child does not "need" it.

You can see it is not required for kinder on up. Meaning, if your child has not had it before 5, they will not be asked for it.

Tell her you heard that CPS can take a child away because the mother is a bad influence through bossiness, arrogance, and a control freak. That would define her.

Thanks guys. She just finished school as a medical ass. and attacked me with all this "data" on vax that she was taught....it was horrendous. I was pretty sure she had no idea what she was talking about but she said her teacher said people who don't vax have even had their kids taken away b/c of it ect ect

With the HIB I was kind of scared b/c it mostly effects kids under 6 y/o and DD is 15 months old...it's really the only vax that's "on the table" for us right now...I am afraid of the encephalitis.

supposedly it isn't. HIB is supposedly the safest and most effective vax on the market...but b/c it is usually in a combo vax they say those side effects could be from the other part of that vax so it can not be directly linked to the HIB portion.

I did more research last night and actually a pro-vax site convinced me not to do it! the numbers were so low and the longer you wait the less amount she would need. So if we wait a few months she would only need it once period.

I have heard of some parents who lost their kids for not vaccinating (I think it was in MD though, not MA), but those parents hadn't brought their children to any well-child visits at all. They didn't make an informed choice not to vaccinate, they just didn't bother to seek any kind of medical care at all for their kids.

SIL is malicious with us for some reason (I vote jealousy)

We have an awesome family. The house I am working on...

DD sleeps with us but I think I have to have a bedroom set up for her. Is that correct?

Our Dr. accepts my decision not to vax and knows I am a very informed person on many things, I think she is crunchier than she can express, but the office supports vax and she told me she supports vax and says her quick little speech at all the well visits. I have yet to find a Dr that doesn't support them in my area. I think if it came down to it, she would say I was a good mom and am very informed in my decisions.

I do woory though b/c I am not the most organized/cleanest person. I am a damn good mother though, but I don't think DCF will understand CLW and not vaxing and the fam bed...
