I'm a Eugene Mama too. Actually we're kind of new to the area, and I've been thinking the same thing - that there's loads going on in Portland. I was hoping maybe to find some other inspired Mama's and have a picnic, or just meet at a park. Is there also a farmers market on Tues? We went a couple of weeks ago to Sat market and got some fabulous veggies. I'm sure it's just getting better and better as the season moves along. Yay, so happy to see your post.

I was just looking through some earlier threads and saw the Washington Park Friday get together thread. Is that still happening? 11 to 1ish? My 7 year old is sooo jonzing for kids his age to play with. It seems easier to find activities for younger kids (which I happen to have one of too) like story time. We haven't really hooked up with anyone since we moved here in March. I'd love to meet at any park, pretty much any time.

Oh, glad to see there are some Eugene mamas, LOL...

We're going to be moving to Eugene sometime in the next 6-9 months (we need to finish our lease here first). I posted asking about Eugene schools, and I don't think anyone saw it before Portland pushed it off the front page
.

Any of you have any opinions or experience with south Eugene elementary schools? A nice nurturing place for an AP'ed kid to land? Or know how hard it is to get into the Village School? We figured we might as well try to rent by a neighborhood school we like, and try the Village School lottery...

I am halfway between Eugene and Portland. . . but we are in Portland about once a week. I know that there are at least 5-10 mamas in Corvallis. . . you may try to find their thread and crash - oh, i mean, join - it

Hi there! I'm here and yes, there are some cool mamas meeting in Washington Park on Fridays, most of us with younger kids. We moved to an earlier 10-12 because of warmer weather, and we'll be there tomorrow. Not really an MDC group, but hip natural mamas anyway.

However the wading pool opens there next week and we'll probably move back to afternoons to play in it!

I always think there should be plenty of lively Eugene mamas around, and have tried to hook up a few times over the years, but it never really works out.....

I'm ready to try again!

I'm a Eugene mama. Every once in a while a thread gets posted like this, and then it dies. That's part of why some people may be reluctant to jump on.

Anyway, regarding South Eugene schools, they are all supposed to be great. People rave about Edison, but I don't think you could go wrong with any of those schools. I'm not in South Eugene and we have another 1.5 years before dd goes to Kinder. so sorry I really don't have any details to give you. I am not sure what your odds are to get into the Village school. I don't think it is enormously competitive, but I do think more people apply then get in.

Just an FYI, not all of the posters in the PDX thread are actually in PDX. Many are in Salem, Vancouver, and east and west of Portland. So don't hesitate to join in if you want too. It's probably easier to keep up with a Eugenie thread though.

So can I ask you guys a question? I used to live in Springfield, but we've been in Portland for 2 years now. We went to Corvallis for something, and I picked up a Eugene weekly and there were massive, angry letters to the editor about the current City government, and frustration over urban planning issues and such. It kind of indicated that there were some organized efforts to pull people out of office. Do you guys know what's going on? I haven't been able to find any quick articles online about what might be causing so much unrest. Has anyone actually been voted out of office?

I'd love to go to the park, probably not tomorrow but perhaps next Friday. Will you guys be moving the meetings to afternoons then? I hope we can keep one thread going, at least a little bit. Some of those PDX threads make me wish I lived there.

I live in Coburg so I don't have any advice on the schools except for Coburg Elementary, which I do like because it's really small and so everyone knows everyone but it's a little academic for me. Not that I don't want my kids to learn I just want them to have a little more freedom in their learning. I would give the Village School a shot, I would try for it if I weren't so far away from there.

E'sMa I have three wild and crazy boys two of them are close to your sons age 9 and 6, the other one is just about to turn 4. I think we'll try to come next week, sounds like fun.

maybeknott, I haven't heard anything about that, but I haven't gotten the Weekly in a while and I've been missing the news quite a bit lately.

Thanks for the schools info
...

Personally, I figure it's a good sign there isn't much Eugene mama activity here, must mean you are all out having fun
.

We are currently perusing real estate listings in Eugene, cuz we found a bank that just "might" approve us for a mortgage (being self employed kinda makes that tough). DH wants a yurt, but we're negotiating for a little more civilization than that, LOL!

'Nother question - how far out of town do you need to drive to hit hiking trails? We loved the river path and parks in town, but sometimes you just have to be in the backcountry...

Hey Mamas, The Washington Park gathering is going to be from 12 to 2 'cause the wading pool will be open - very exciting. It's not specifically a mothering gathering like mtsunshinemama posted, it is kind, loving their kids mamas, and we met some wonderful people - thank you so much ladies.
Purplepixiewing, E will be psyched to play with some kids his age, hope you can make it, or maybe we can set something up too.
Mamafish9, if you find a house backing up to the Amazon Headwaters Forested area you can just walk out your back door and grab a trail up to Spencer Butte. We have yet to venture up there, but we've been house hunting, and have seen a few in that area - south, southeast Eugene, which is still officially in town.

Ooo, very cool, that's about where we're looking, there are a few pockets of more "affordable" homes near the Edgewood shopping strip...

And we will be happy to come to Washington park when we get there
: (crossing our fingers on house financing approval this week, then we will come house shopping!)

Hey Eugene Mamas, Here it is Friday afternoon and i missed another park day. It was clear that Aaron would not make a car ride without falling asleep, and he doesn't transfer well these days. He's been up at night a bit - 'till 10:30 last night. so, maybe next week? Are you still meeting at noon? Hope all is well. Lovin' the weather btw. Mary.

I've been missing the park days too. I really want to go but things are kind of crazy here right now. We're moving and that's a huge pain plus trying to repair a car that needs to be fixed before we move. Not to mention just the regular stuff of life. I hope I can make time for one soon, it'd be great to meet some new moms and let the kids play. Someday.

I'm in Springfield... but it's great to see other local moms posting! We're limited on travel during the day because DH uses the car for work, and packing us all on the bus is a logistical nightmare. :p However, we do have a booth at Saturday Market several times a month. I'd love to meet other moms if you want to stop by. Our booth is on the food court side, way in the back corner. You'll know it is us because we have plants there. I'll also be working in the rabbit barn at the county fair.

Do any of you Eugene moms live near the park behind Friendly St. Market? I'd like to find other moms who live in my neighborhood (within walking distance of that park). Maybe we could set up a weekly time for kids to play together at that park?
