I read through Calebsmama03's post on the same subject from 2 days ago (we're sisters in Divahood, apparently, because we're going through this for the first time together, Lynne!)...and had a few more questions.

Do most people have to use backup (like pantyliner, etc.) with the DivaCup, or am I just going to have to master this learning curve?

Also, and this one might be over the line of TMI- I've occasionally been feeling excess pressure after placing the cup. Like after DS#2 was born, there were several months where I just felt pressure in the uterine area, with no real explanation (though it was very noticable during sex). So I'm feeling that on occasion when placing the cup. Almost like a huge air bubble in the middle of my belly....Is this something anyone else has experienced?

Thanks a bunch!

I felt almost like a crampy feeling for a while, which now I don't notice. Wasn't sure if that was the size of the thing or what. Maybe that's similar to what you describe? Mine didn't feel like gas to me though.

I usually use a pantyliner with the Diva but that's just from long years of leaking with tampons, LOL. TMI alert: I also tend to get drips of blood here and there and if any cling the pantyliner catches that.

eta: the whole post is tmi, beware.

My first af w/ the diva cup I did use a panty-liner (cloth of course
), just because I didn't know what to expect.
Second af (which just finished on Saturday) I didn't use a panty-liner to catch any drips. The diva cup caught everything, and I even slept naked the entire week - yay!
There definitely is a learning curve. 1st af I had to try at least 2-4 times to get it in, 2nd af, I only had to take it out and reposition twice. It will get better.

I'm also digging the lack of cramps; dh didn't know I had af until I told him the next day. Before, he'd know from the moaning and my not getting out of bed unless absolutely necessary. Plus we're saving a buttload of money from not buying ibuprofen.

I *so* know that bubble feeling; it's stopped me in my tracks before. It's just the cup expanding after you put it in. Usually mine expands before I leave the bathroom, but sometimes it suprises me later.
I haven't found any real solution other than to expect it occasionally. Also, do you have the cup positioned high enough? I probably stick it higher than other people might (like almost the length of my index finger) so I don't feel it, and so it stays put.

HTH!

After I insert it I give it a few pinches and twist it around, till I feel it expanding, that way I'm not surprised later. I can feel mine sometimes, depending what I"m doing and how I position it at first. I was so used to a tampon, which you insert pushing up. With the diva you have to push it backwards. If you don't that d8%# stem can do quite a bit of scraping!!!

(hope I haven't repeated anything that's already been said, I'm too tired to check out the first post)

I'm on to the diva for af #2 and it's amazing!!!!

Not tmi at all, mamas...I don't know how I could get a better understanding of this without hearing all the personal details, YKWIM?

I met MIL for some shopping and lunch w/the boys today and mentioned the DivaCup to her- she called me an hour later (she's a psychotherapist) with a couple of interns in her office; they're studying WIC in TX and how to make it better, and wanted to research this as an option. Already getting some converts, and I've not even used it for a full cycle yet! LOL!

Thanks for your help, everyone! Hopefully liners will be a thing of the past soon...but until then, I'm just thrilled to not be using tampons!

That's awesome! One more tidbit now that you all know more than you need to about me - the diva cup has already paid for itself for us in just two months.

In two months before all this, I would have gone through an $8 bottle of advil liqui-gels (take effect quicker than caplets), about three $5-$6 boxes of tampons, and the additional box of panty-liners (maybe $3). Oh, and maybe one of those little boxes of heat patches you stick on your underwear - I think they're $5 or so.
