This will sound loopy to some and forgive me if you don't believe in this. I am x-posting with my DDC because it interests me to hear the stories.

Something made me think of this today. There was someone living with us in the townhouse years ago where we lived when my DS3 was born. Someone we couldn't see, if you know what I mean.

I have always experienced spirits in various places (none in this house now, I am surprised!) so it's normal. And I didn't feel bad things about this one like the ones I'd grown up with.

When the baby was born and brought home, the presence was constant wherever the baby was. Often, when we settled into bed, I could feel this presence (which seemed like a male to me) sit down on the bed with us. Nothing else, just sit there. It wasn't all the time, but fairly often at first (and you know how often we wake at night and get up to pee or change positions to breastfeed in bed before settling back in).

When Jack was a week old and my husband went to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy, I called mom to watch the kids so I could be there for him when he woke up.

Mom has no problem piling into my bed with my kids, so she laid there with Jack. She told me about her experience at some point after that. She said she felt this THING that kept sitting on the bed with her and getting up and sitting down again like it was pacing. It also seemed to be following her. She felt it was watching her to be sure she was taking care of the baby the right way. Jack was not settled at all and didn't like getting pumped milk in a bottle from grandma at his age, as you can imagine.

Whoever/whatever it was never followed us or anything when we moved away and it slowly seemed to disappear into the background again as Jack got a few months older while we were still there.

There are other stories I've read of spirits coming to labors or visiting after baby's born. So -- anyone else?

Have had experiences, but nothing recent (this house is only 20 years old). With my luck that's when it'll show up!

Thx for sharing your story...I know some people don't believe but I've seen too much to be able to say that! I love ghostie stories. It sounds like a very caring ghost. Let us know if anything happens with your new baby!

PS where was the old house where you had that experience?

My bf's mom loves to tell the story that when he was 2 y.o. he used to see an old man in one of the rooms in their house. He was the only one in the family able to see that ghost (?), point to him, babble, describe, talk to him, etc.

Around the time of conception of this one we felt a lot of activity in the house. My house is what I like to describe as a rest stop of sorts.. we have periods of increased activity and then it's quiet for awhile. I'm starting to sense more going on here again and I'm getting closer to my due date. I'm curious to see how 'active' things get when she gets here.

It actually didn't seem so caring as it seemed controlling. It was annoying and intrusive as I could tell I didn't know "him" and as hard as sleep is to come by, I would get upset as it seemed like "he" was constantly getting up or sitting down on my bed as I was nearing sleep (which always wakes you up!)

It wasn't like some of those peaceful visits you get.

I was in a row of townhouses that weren't that old in Corning, NY. I wouldn't have expected anything there but I guess you never know.

Where I had grown up, the house is 120-130 years old and there are several spirits there with at least two that are not nice. It was an experience to say the least! I had friends and family all through my life tell me about their experiences in that house and it's hard now to visit. I have to put on my big girl britches to sleep in my old room and use the bathroom.

I grew up thinking it was normal to feel watched and feel fear. My oldest had a bad experience there that I feel still affects his psyche now as he's the only one who runs from the bathroom or a darkened room.

I've lived in another farm house when my oldest was born and I had to "speak" with that spirit to get peace from loud knocking and noises. I think they felt we had intruded as I was ALWAYS home and we were noisy and the people before us barely even slept there.

Nothing in this house, and I am happy that way

Actually funnily enough the spirit who followed my Husband around, (I felt him all the time) who we are pretty sure was the spirit of my husband's twin who died as a toddler, vanished when our DS was conceived. I have felt them all my life and even so they give me the willies still except for two spirits in my life one was this spirit that was more like a recording of a man who lived and died in my Grandmother's house. He used to walk from the upstairs hall down the stairs into the old doctor's office that was his over and over again, he wasn't aware at all of what was going on around him so it was easy to get used to him. The other was this brother spirit of my husbands and sometimes I even kind of miss him. I believe that seeing his brother go through a change so drastic of becoming a Father prompted him to finally move on. I have had some very aware and hostile spirit expieriances though so I do not relish new encounters as they always seem to find me anyway. Thank God I don't seem to have any problems in my new apartment but... as my DH and I seem to be magnets for this sort of thing I'm not holding my breath. Good topic!

Do animals count?

We had some weird encounters right before my son was born. Dragonflies swarmed the house for days before he was born and a snake came beside the porch to die. Drew had to CARRY our midwife off of the porch and she is about 6 inches taller than him. It was crazy.

Naturally, my son is totally into bugs (he is watching the ant bully right now). He keeps collections of bugs for days and I will often have to pull dead ones out of his clothes and bed. He is my little entymologist.

your spirit's controlling-ness (yeah, i know its not a word
) and need to make sure everything is ok, sounds more like a family member whos watching out for them, or like a nervous parent who lost a child when they were young. of course, if you believe in re-incarnation, that brings up a bunch of other theories...

i dont recall any spirits really making themselves known when it comes to my kids, but i do know my great uncle used to play with his grandkids when they were toddlers (he didnt get to meet them before he passed).

if you think the spirit is a stranger, then you have the right to be firm about him backing off..be sure to verbalize this. if you think it may be a family member of your, maybe try to be more sensative...either way, ive always been told to express your feelings to the spirits...they might not know how theyre making you feel

What an interesting topic! I'm pregnant w/#1--so no births yet--but like Mum3Nic, I felt a lot of activity the week before our baby was concieved, and then a little bit after. Nothing now, and I wonder if it'll start up again around the birth.

I've been having ladybugs land on me and my belly. Then they crawl around on my arms and refuse to leave for awhile... My mother's nickname for DD (when she's finally born) will be Ladybug!

But as for spirits, I haven't experienced anything physical...just what seems like "visits" in dreams..and when I first conceived I would sleep in the livingroom because my bedroom felt sort of cluttered and depressing...I had what seemed like an eerie feeling every night in the living room. I'd wake up around 2:15 AM for a few days and it was right after I had a reaccuring dream of a little girl and an old man. They told me "It comes from the moon, not the sun." And the little girl's name was Adrona.....Not sure what any of this means, but I quit having those dreams after I began accepting the fact I was going to have an unplanned baby... Also, those were the dreams that told me I'd be having a GIRL! And they were right!

Can anyone tell me what they think these dreams may mean???

When I had my oldest, we lived in a house built in the late 1800s. I felt that there was a motherly spirit watching over us. I remember one night nursing her and felt something stroke my hand. I felt as if someone was comforting me and understanding what I was going through.

I don't think I felt anything like that when I had my second.

That's pretty neat. I think I have had spirits visit. At the time I just thought I was really tired and hallucinating. In the middle of the night I felt/heard someone standing at the door way of my dd doorway while I breastfed, I remember getting startled, it happened with dd 1 and 2. Then when I had my twins it was in the middle of the winter and I then lived with my in-laws two beautiful doves (in the middle of the snow) landed on the roof and I was sitting directly below nursing my twins looking in through the sun roof, then again right at the sliding door watching me and the babies. I thought it was interesting being there were no other birds in sight, it was so cold out. I thing they were my grandmothers.

when i brought ds home and he was almost a month old, very late at night 2am or 3am i think. i was rocking the baby and he kept turning his head into the corner of the room and smiling, i did feel a presence but i think it was my dad or grandfather and i did feel the same "sense" of someone being here so... it has happened a few times and it leaves me with a happy feeling! ds was born on my dads b-day so yeah i dunno... i think it's pretty cool!

I never feel alone in my house; it's a century old edifice (that's old for Phoenix!) that is nicknamed "the pueblo". It was here when nothing else was. I mean nothing. This is where the pioneers stayed en route to their destination.

Sometimes my 5w/o will be alone in the bedroom and I'll be in the kitchen and a motherly energy will find me and let me know that it's time to get to my daughter and stop with the dishes or whathaveyou.

Also...I think babies are able to see energies when they're young, and my wee one is always staring into doorways and just beyond me...makes me feel like she's sensing the energies overlooking my shoulder. If that makes sense...

Also, we had DD here, and I doubt she was the first homebirth!
