dd is 8m old and she has suddenly started being mean. literally. if i pick her up and mover her away from some thing she shouldn't be by, she makes an evil little mad face and either hits me, scratches me, pinches me, or bits me. although it is slightly cute is this normal.

It's totally normal, and she's not evil.
Lots and lots of babies hit and scratch around that age -- she's not being "mean," she's just seeing what happens when she interacts with the world, like she does with everything else. She doesn't have the cognitive ability to understand that it hurts you yet.

My daughter went through a several-week pinching period right at eight months, when she would pinch while nursing hard enough to leave black-and-blue welts on my breasts. That was fun! She would grab my lower lip with her fingernails, and poke me in the eye.

And she hasn't become a serial killer, at least so far ...

i was kidding, she's not mean or evil. it just seems like she has to be too young to know how to hurt me already. she only does this behavior after i've taken her away from something she wants. it's the maddest little face i've ever seen. it is pretty cute though. if i can snap a pic of it i will definetly post it.

my DD is just starting to show a glimmer of her temper and her opinions about things! I have a few toys that she absolutely LOVES that I try to reserve for times when she needs to be distracted. Like, when she's going for the electrical outlet, I show her the rubber ducky and she literally drops everything to lunge for it. Always good to have a trick up your sleeve

hehe, usually she is going for the computer. as for toys she's more interested in stuff she can't have. like a tv remote, cordless phone, box of kleenex. she's a trouble maker. hehe.

I always liken cuddling my baby to cuddling a baby panther. before she was born I had images in my mind of snuggling with her on Saturday mornings....
She hits, scratches, grabs and yanks my hair as hard as she can, etc. It's normal. They don't know they're doing anything wrong, they just have no words to communicate and they are exploring their different motions and reactions.

We were rather surprised when G started hitting us (well, mostly me!) in the face...like how did he learn that?! Of course, we 'blamed' the behavior on his bio parents but really know it's just normal development.

I hope I didn't sound snarky earlier- if so, I'm sorry.

My dd likes everything that's NOT a toy the best. It's ok to let her play with them as long as she's not hurting them or getting hurt by them. I let dd play with almost anything...

Mine hits, bites and kicks all the time too. I took it as funny calling your 8 month old evil. My husband didn't think it was too funny when I called mine the devil child in the first few weeks when we were learning to breastfeed (huge nipple trauma and sleep deprivation will make you think you have the devil attached to your breast!)
