Somebody just asked for a used basal thermometer on my local freecycle tye thing.

What what do y'all think? Weird or not weird? I mean, I have spent oodles on TTC, I don't even want to think about how much, but it's just a drop in the bucket as far as expenses associated with raising a child.

I would probably give my LUNA lens and/or thermometer to a close friend, and/or take used ones from someone close to me...but to/from a random stranger????

The post, for the curious:

I know a way to detect ovulation by check body temp early morning. I
need a digital oral(mouth) thermometer, preferably less than 3 yrs old
for accuracy. For hygenic reasons, appreciate anything NOT used before
for rectal(anus). My wife sometimes has to take this herself because I
am on shift and cannot use the ear type by herself.

If anyone around has switched to ear type thermometer and has on oral
type lying around, please give me a mail.

Can porch pickup anywhere within metro XXX and XXX.(where I
live and work)

thanks
XXXXX

p/s We are trying to get pregnant, any hints
(implicit/explicit/embarrassing) welcome.

Using a used thermometer wouldn't bother me any worse than using a used fork, of course I'd wash it well first! The description was a little much though.

But is there some fancy sort they are looking for? Because I think I paid less than $8 for mine.

To me? Yes!

I don't know why it just seems so gross to me. Well, probably because you'd have to trust that it was only used orally. I just couldn't make that leap of faith.

Wow I am suprised that's even allowed. My freecycle here doesn't usually allow things of that nature to be given away. I remember some issues once with cloth diapers. PRoducts that are considered "personal hygiene or single use" aren't usually given away.

So you've got individual thermometers for everyone in your family?

Thermometers wash, that's part of why you don't have to throw them out after getting sick.

Um, since when do thermometers fall into either category?

And on the money issue, for someone who's going to be having a child, it makes sense to try to get things for free whenever there's time, instead of just going out to the store and buying X. And if what I've been reading of people's experiences here at MDC is any indication, babies aren't actually that expensive. Besides that, since when do we want to discourage reusing instead of buying new?

Four words:
Boiling water and bleach.
