I was told yesterday that my DS was exposed to pinworms. I called my allopathic dr and the suggestion was that I give him Vermox which is available over the counter. I do not want to give it to him unless I really have to. Also I would probably have to be treated also and it is contraindicated for pregnancy. While I am not pregnant I am TTCing so couldn't gaurantee that I would not become pregnant during this time.

So my questions are: Should I treat my DS? He was exposed through daycare so what are the chances that he has them? Is there a natural way to treat pinworms? If I treat DS do I have to be treated? Thanks for your responses.

From what I understand Pinworms are VERY contagious. They get on toys and then the child puts his hand in his mouth and they go right to the intestines and start reproducing....they can even be airborne. If it was me, I would most definately treat him and myself and anyone else in the family. I would also wash all bedding, and all clothes that he has worn in hot water to avoid recontamination.

I've used homeopathy on worms in my middle son. Works fantastically well. I think cina was the remedy that was right for him in this case. That combined with hygiene measures and drop or 2 of grapefruit seed extract in his water cleared them up in a week or so. Washing their hands and bottom first thing when they get up really helps, because if they itch first thing there will be lots of eggs there (as they are laid over night) then.
