I hostess in a restaurant at night in the summer. A mom and little girl I would say around 2.5, and significant other and friend. I got them a high chair the mom put her in it, I put them in a corner just because it's a big restaurant and famlies usually feel more comfortble there. Anyway a few minutes after they got settled and had ordered she took the girl out of the high chair leaned her back in her arms and very discreatly without covering up NURSED IN PUBLIC I wanted to run over and say YAYYYYYY YOU!!!!!!! After they finished nursing both sides she got up came over to me and said with the girl. and A CLOTH DIAPER IN HER HAND!!! Do you have a baby changing area I apologized and said we didn't but said we do have a good counter in the ladies room feel free to use it. They came back a few minutes later the little girl wandered just a little way from their table and hung out looking at the water and playing peek a boo with the restaurant staff. I wasn't sure how to approach the mom and say congratulations. I just went over and said you're little girl is so well behaved it must be because mommy treats her so well. She didn't yell and scream she didn't run all over. Defintely an AP family I would say. I found her a coloring book and crayons and a little pop up book.
I didn't want to stare while she was nursing and have her think I was mad but I was in such awe, you just don't see a lot of extended nursing in public here.
I was thinking oh my maybe she is a mdc mommy.

Yay! It's so great to hear stories like this one.

I NIP in restaurants all the time. DD wouldn't allow me to cover even if I wanted to do so. She's 23 months old now and I still nurse her whenever, wherever.

Oh, how awesome!

Our local WIC office has free cards you can pick up. THey're business card sized, and one side is for a NIP mom to give to anyone who's harassing her. It lists the state statues that protect a mother's right to breastfeed.

The other side is to give to a NIP mama, it says something like "THanks for giving your baby the best.

If your WIC doesn't have them, lots of places sell them online, or you could print your own on the computer :)

I definitely would have said something!

I saw a lady with a kid in a sling one time and started talking to her. Turns out we *did* know each other from the forums <grin>

If you see her again, ask her!

I had a great conversation with a nurse practitioner at the PP clinic here about CDing, APing, etcetera because she saw my cloth mama pad (I had a spare in my pocket and it fell out) and she knew what it was!

There are more of us around that we think because most of us are so shy about it
