My friend just told me that she is planning on switching her ds to foward facing. He is three weeks shy of his first birthday. I mentioned that we wouldn't be switching dd to forward facing until much later. I know that if she had the right info she would make a different decision than the one she is making now. The trouble is, I don't know what to send her. I tried doing a search here, but I must not be using the right words because nothing has come up.

Could you wonderful mamas help??

Thanks!

In a hurry, but these links should provide some good info. The last one is a link to a car seat forum with lots of great info and knowledgable people!

That video was a great link, thanks! We kept DS rear facing until a year and a half, but honestly now I think we should have done so longer. This baby will stay rear facing until he/she is 30lbs for sure. Have you seen the video about keeping your children in 5 point harness as long as possible (way past 30lbs)? That is another eye opener!

Children in carseats should stay rear-facing for as long as possible

http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/StayRearFacing.aspx

Rear-facing is the safest position the child can ride in. It is strongly recommended that all children stay rear-facing beyond the minimum requirements of 1 year and 20 lbs. Children should not be turned forward-facing until they reach the maximum rear-facing limits of a convertible seat (that allows rear-facing to at least 30 lbs).

When he is at least one year old, and preferably longer. (Swedish children ride rear-facing until at least three years old in safety seats made to fit larger children.) In a crash, an infant's spinal cord may stretch if she is riding facing forward, and the baby could die or be paralyzed for life. This is true even for babies who have strong neck muscles and good head control.

Thanks, y'all! You made me turn my 13-month-old back around. She had been forward facing for about a week and I saw those videos and read those articles, and now she's rearfacing again! ;-)
