all last week my left lower eyelid was itchy. about two days ago i woke up to a very painful lower lid. when i looked in the mirror i could instantly tell it was swollen. today was a little better as far a pain but the itchiness is getting worse. i can't tell if the swelling is getting better, probably not since i've been rubbing it. i've been putting warm washcloths on it and that's about it. if it's a stye there's no "head" to it. if it's allergies do you thin allergy meds would help? should i wait it out? any ideas?

I can't tell from the picture, but if you have a sty it will raise up and it will hurt terribly everytime you blink. If that's the case the only way to relieve it and speed healing is to pull out the infected hair. I've had dozens of these in my life and that was the only thing that helped. You will know if that's it because it will raise up like a pimple. I hope that's not it cause they are TERRIBLE!

I'd give it another couple of days and see how it goes. Also, see if you can pull your lower lid down and look at the surface you blink on, look closely at the hair folicles and see if you notice anything odd. The only other eye trouble I've had was when an eye lash made it's way BEHIND my eyeball and infected my sinuses.
If it's just itching I would wait it out a couple more days.
Have you checked WebMD?

I would just keep with the warm cloth compression although I would do it as hot as I could stand it. I would also be picking at eyelashes and pulling some out, hoping to help relieve the problem.

I recently had a recurring stye, what a pain!

The hot compresses were helpful but the most helpful thing was washing my eyelid with a VERY diluted solution of my dd's natural baby shampoo and water. I put it on a Qtip and washed my lid every day with it and then the stye came to a head and drained and hasn't returned.

I recently had an eye appt and the eye dr told me that was the correct thing to do, so there's your doctor's advice, if it is indeed a stye.

If it's a stye rub something gold on it. I don't know why it works but it does.

oops, sorry. i've been busy with my lovely infected hand now. the day after i posted this it looked much better. not 100% but it didn't look like i had been punched in the eye. the skin peeled and bit probably from rubbing and i had a little lump in the middle that is still slowly fading. it never came to a head thank goodness. i'm guessing it was allergies with how it all happened.

My Ds2 has battled allergies for two years now and he has had three or four stys since last april. DS 1 had a sty this year from a really bad sinus infection. You definitely had a sty from the looks of things.
We do hot compresses and we have an erythromycin gel that we use topically on the skin that clears it right up. I have heard that breast milk works well. I also was told that soaking white bread in milk and then putting it up against the sty and leaving it there overnight, by covering our eye with a bandage) works as well. Apparently there must be an enzyme or something in milk sources that acts as a drawing agent.

I'm glad your eye is better, but you're on a roll now it sounds like I hope your hand gets better soon!
