What could be some possible causes for eye twitching? First my left eye was twitching and now my right eye is twitching. It happens every 5 minutes and lasts about 30-50 seconds each time. This has been going on for over two weeks. I've had twitching before but lately it's become a regular thing: I get the twitches, it goes away and then comes back. Any suggestions as to what I should do? TIA.

Hi,
This happens to my DH from time to time. He spent a while concerned about it and not knowing what was causing it. He finally realized it happens to him when he is under stress.
Do you think it could be stress?

I don't feel particularly stressed. I mean, I'm currently looking for a teaching position to start in the fall. I don't want to WOH but that's the situation right now so that might be causing me stress but I don't feel like I am stressed to the point where I'd be having these twitches.

Could be a magnesium deficiency, I used to have eye twitches and other muscle twitches(biceps and triceps). I drink a lot of milk also. When I started to take magnesium the twitching went away, also helped my lower back not to ache.

I get it from my allergies. It's the sorta itchy sensation like I get in my nose. I get it in my eyes and they twitch.

For me, it's from stress. Ooooh, and I found THE BEST remedy. All natural, no preservatives, etc. but it's kind of expensive....go on a cruise! I was having a severe twitch a few years ago and a week on the big boat sure took care of it!

I'm attributing my eye twitching to mercury toxicity...in addition to my amalgams, I also used to use contact lens solution back in the 80's-early 90's before thimerosal was banned.

I second the magnesium deficiency. Take some magnesium for a few days. Its cheap and the majority of people are deficient.

Thanks very much ladies. I've tried getting extra sleep and the twitch is still here. I will take a Mg supplement and stop taking Calcium Ascorbate for a while and see what happens. Thanks again.

Stress, lack of sleep, allergies, vitamin deficiencies, and eye strain...I've had them also, and even asked the eye doc when I was in for my eye exam and he said it's perfectly normal, can be just from reading too much or allergies or anything.
