I'm so bummed out, it's ruined my afternoon. I failed by a lot so I'm going on the GD diet tomorrow for the rest of the pregnancy (on my own accord) and I'm taking the 3 hour on Monday.

That rough. If you pass the 3 hour will you still stay on the GD diet?

Yes. Everything I'm reading says that it's the diet we all should have pregnant or otherwise, both my parents have diabetes so I figure if I start now it will just be good for my life anyways. I don't have much to cut out, we pretty much eat that way anyway. I just need to give up OJ, crackers and the occasional sweet. We already do the whole grain pasta, brown rice, whole wheat bread, etc. I'll need to cut back a bit on fruit but can still eat quite a bit just need to pair it with a protein.

I declined the GTT but decided to monitor my own blood sugars with a glucometer and it's been SO helpful. Before I changed my diet I think I was definitely borderline GD.

When I started out, I would get high readings, sometimes alarmingly high, from obvious trigger foods like pizza, sweets and pasta, but after playing around with my diet for a couple of weeks and making various changes and tweaks I discovered some really invaluable things. One, is that my blood sugar stays good and steady within a few points, even if I eat a bad white carb, if I eat small portions frequently from the moment I wak until I go to bed. I have three small meals and three hearty snacks. I've always been told that's the best way to eat, but it's been really powerful thing to see the actual evidence of it in my blood sugar readings.

Also, I can eat things like crackers and actually eat a decent amount of fruit so long as I always pair it with one or two good proteins.

And last night, after I had eaten really well all day, I gave in to a craving and had two kinda big cookies after not having had any sweets in weeks. Since I did it right after a good, high protein and high fiber dinner, my post meal reading was totally fine.

Anyway, just wanted to say that monitoring my own blood sugar has been invaluable and very empowering. I would highly recommend it. And the way it's forced me to eat has made me feel absolutely fantastic. Seriously, my digestive system is working so well, I'm sleeping really well.. I just feel great. So don't get too bummed. I've done tons of research, so if you have any questions while getting started, let me know.

Take care!

That sucks, sorry! Is it going to screw up your care from the midwives, such as labeling you high risk?
