Now, I know as soon as I hit "SUBMIT" on this, AF is gonna show up, but . . .

My DH had a vasectomy last year. He went in to be tested several times, and got the "all clear" from his doctor. So, I am now over 1 week late & am getting nervous, but there's like now way, right??? I am not usually late. THis would mark the longest cycle I've recorded, save 1 time about 7 years ago.

This would not be a hppy surprise.

don't know the official number but AFAIK it's less than one percent. You're probably safe, but I can understand the stress. Have you done a pg test??

The younger the guy, the higher the rate of failure..... fwiw.

Dh was 24 at his big V and they made sure he knew this.

Of course, I was already pregnant (didn't know it!!! found out 2 weeks after the big V)....

We are planning to have my tubes tied during my c/s to make *double* sure

My mom has a friend who got pregnant years after her dh got sniped. He didn't want to doubt his wife, but wasn't sure it was his until after the birth and they had a dna test.

OMG- that's horrible, and also horribly funny! and a little bit understandable.

Ok, what's with the doubting husbands. I'd be pissed if my DH ever doubted the paternity of his children. Seriously. It would become a HUGE issue.

This is what we were told... the chances of a failure after completing post surgical testing (showing no viable sperm) is less than 1%. I don't know if all offices are the same, but they told DH they would test after 90 days because it takes that long for the "demons to leave the building".

I've heard of a few people getting PG after the V, but their husbands never followed up with the testing... come to found out, they still had active swimmers! WHOOPS! I wouldn't call that a failure... I'd call that an unsuccessful procedure

I believe they did do the follow ups. Their marrige didn't have any effects from it. I guess it is understandable. I talked to my mom and she said it happened about 5 years after the vasectomy. I could totally see how it would be hard for a husband to believe.

I am watching this thread because after we have #2 my dh is getting snipped.

Oh I do know a friend who had her tubes burned and is now pregnant....I think it was 4 year ago that she had them done too.

i know someone who got pregnant. they only wanted 1 child, she was 15 and mom ended up pregnant. they now have 1 in college and one in elementary school. she had her tubes tied.

My sister got pregnant by a man who assured her he had had a vacectomy before their relationship started (he had 3 teenage children at that point). He got tested, and had low sperm count, but definately active swimmers (and there is no doubt the child was his anyway...he looks just like his father and NOTHING like us). And we are all fertile beyond belief in my family, so it is no surprise to me given the sperm test. So either his V failed (they tried to say that he might have 3 vas deferons) or he was lying (which I do not doubt

They ended up getting married and then had one more child. Then she got her tubes tied, as she had 4 children and was done.

It depends how it's done from what I heard. My dh had a small piece of each tube removed, the ends tied and than burned. Doc had 100% success rate, dh never did get his checked though...

My cycles haven't been right since he got it done, my weird body hasn't figured out it can't get pregnant anymore yet I think :LOL. I've been a few days late and weird pms symptoms too but eventually af always shows.

I'm sticking around too. DH has an appointment next week to find out about getting one. He's been told they won't do it unless the guy is 30 or has 2 kids of his own. Stupid Navy. DH meets neither criteria but we are hoping he can convince them anyways. I've had lots of problems with BC and with my blood pressure and weight the doc told me getting pg would be a VERY bad idea.

They still really stress it's permanent, dh had to tell the urologist about 100 times yes we are sooo sure and yes we are perfectly ok with it being permanent!

Make sure a urologist does it, dh told me a few family practice clinic horror stories from guys he talked to before getting it done.

Gotta love military clinics! And one guy passed his test but got his wife pregnant a year later, I'm assuming either the lab waited to long to do the test or something wasn't done right. Make sure if he gets it done the lab tests the ur...specimen within 30 minutes.

Amen to that, pilesoflaundry. DH is saying if they want to do it in a military clinic he'd rather go find a specialist and just pay for it ourselves. Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost?

side ramble here--- do not get your tt especially during a section, you are asking for trouble

I repeat please do not!!! No one tried to talk me out of it and I can't believe here on mothering that so many mamas are choosing this method which hurts women.

do more research, if your dr suggested this, did he tell you which method he will use and all the risks involved??? including ectopic pregnancy, surgical adhesions, and heavier periods, did he tell you that statistically you are way more likely to have a hysterectomy in the future???
RANT here 'heavier periods' means every 19 days that last 9 days and need several boxes of pads and a box or two of super tampons and no sex life for a couple weeks a month and the latest on hormone shots to get my Endemetrial ablation and taking the birth control pill for a couple years before that and fighting my insurance company to pay for bc & the ponstel for the cramping & dirarrhea while passing clots (cause I had my tt LOL when it would be convienent) it is SO not worth it I had normal periods before my tl
