I think I'm ready to venture into fair isle - the easier version at least. I'm looking to make a winter hat for my sister - something kind of fun and funky. I checked out Knitty and nothing really moved me. I really like those hats with the 2 ends sticking out on either side - don't know what they're technically called. I don't mind paying for a pattern or looking in a book, just not sure what direction to go. Couldn't find anything on fiber trends either.

Any ideas?

comcining those two would probably give you what you want. maybe by following the first patterns, the using earflap directions from the 2nd?

also a couple patterns http://countrywool.tripod.com/kits_patterns/hat_sc.htm there.
