ok so i know most people do spring cleaning. not me, i know that i will be stuck in my house all winter and i need it organized, plus i need to find the winter clothes and boots, christmas decor, fancy plates. ect.
so what started as a simple fall cleaning has turned into an overhaul, i have thrown away things i swore i would always keep because i realize i don't need it. it is liberating to get rid of things that you were only keeping because of emotional connection. i fell like i can breathe ,*sigh*.
anyone else do thier major cleanout /declutter in the winter?

I am feeling the pull to have a Fall Cleaning as well. I've never been one to do either a spring or a fall cleaning...: I kind of just clean and organize one space at a time as the urge hits me. This year for some reason, I've been feeling like I need to get organized and ready to be indoors all winter like you said. I've already cleaned and organized my pantry and basement food storage shelves, gone through my son's old clothes and cleared out what doesn't fit, and am getting ready to do my closet as well. There's so much more to be done...I'm sure at least part of this is procrastination (I'm working on my Master's thesis). But also, I know that last winter, I was totally stir crazy by February and I remember stalking around my house thinking what an insane mess it was and wanting to just run away!

Count me in on the Fall cleaning this year!

I'm feeling the need to do a major fall clean/purge, too. I'm noticing stuff piling up and my house doesn't feel as clean as I'd like. As soon as I shake this sinus infection, I'll be all over it

I'm in. I just finished decluttering my house (it took 9 months) and now it needs a deep cleaning. I am trying to think about how I am going to go about it. Should I pick one thing to do and then do it in every room, like dust? Or, should I do one sweep of my house and completely clean each area as I go? My kitchen is going to take forever because I need to defrost the big freezer and while I am at it I really want dh to pull out all the major appliances so that I can clean and sweep behind/under them. I want the fish tank to get a good cleaning. The windows have not been cleaned from the outside since we moved here.

I know that is a big list, but it is funny that it does not seem so big after getting rid of all of the junk from our house over then past year.

The thing that I am avoiding is trying to set up some kind of weekly/monthly/seasonal cleaning list or schedule.

Thanks for the suggestion but I tried reading flylady and it is just not for me. I know that a lot of people like it and she has helped a lot of people, but to be honest her system drives me crazy. There is just too much stuff that does not apply to my family or work for us and I hate the emails.

The getting dressed to your toes and sink shinning drive me crazy. I know that these things are fundamental for some people and think that everyone against it is in denial, but people don't just come in one size.

i'm in too, but not really because it's fall. though i do typically feel revitalized once fall weather hits. i'm NOT a lover of heat. we're planning to put our house on the market in the spring, so we have to get it ship-shape before then. i've started decluttering, though i seem to go in spurts. i'm also procrastinating (writing my doctoral dissertation LOL) with a defense date in early december. so i imagine i'll really *really* get to the real stuff after that.

our plan is to rent a dumpster and just PURRRRRGE!!!! can't wait for that.

Yes Flylady=ADD nightmare, especially when you have ADD- though I don't doubt she could give someone ADD.

I'm having family over for Thanksgiving, family I Haven't seen in several years. Some have never seen our house.

I WANT IT TO BE STARK, CLEAN AND DECLUTTERED!

I rearranged my living room furniture and everything I put in the foyer during the rearranging that didn't have a spot when it was all said and done is going buh-bye.

I washed the walls as I moved things (we have dogs that rub the walls and kids and I don't really know smudges!) and I vacuumed under things while moving stuff around and threw lots of stuff out.

I'm going to keep moving from room to room, and I've pledged to wash one window and sill each day. In just over 3 weeks I'll have washed all the windows. That works for me.

My main thing is getting rid of STUFF.

I put two bags of clothes in the car. They are destined for a domestic violence shelter.

And all this reminds me I need to get back into it....

Just so everyone knows .. you DON'T have to get thousands of fly lady emails to be on fly lady...you just set it up to send you the emails at whatever increments you want!

I get them once a week. Also, sometimes i just delete them also, but that's fine...you DON'T have to read every one...Even if i just read one per month i find it motivating/helpful

just a quick fyi so you don't think that you have to get emails every day!!!

Count me in! I started today.... ten trash bags full of JUNK to the Goodwill, one pile to see if I can get any trade in at the consignment shop... and the rest of the house to go. I started on part of the basement, and then did dd's room. She was so sweet and let me get rid of two huge trashbags full of stuff! gotta love her, she used to keep EVERYTHING!

I love a good fall cleaning
My biggest goal this fall will be the basement! Other then that, lots of downsizing "things" and eleminating items not being used or needed. It is almost like preparing for hibernation in the winter!

I like the fall cleaning too. It makes sense when we are going to be inside all winter! I try to go room by room and make lots and lots of lists : I am a listmaker! Of course I'd probably get more done if I didn't spend so much time listing things and just did them!!!

I'm in too!

We hosted a shower last week, so I've already deep cleaned the main living areas. But the upstairs and basement need a good go-thru. I had most things decluttered last year at this time, so I'm hoping the basement will go fast and easy this time. I just know I want a clean clear house going into the holidays, because the babe is coming not too long after that and then there will be all 5 of us cozy inside all of Feb and March!

I'm not into to flylady, but I do really like chorebuster.org. Once you set up all your tasks, its really easy to see what needs to be done when. I just get one email a week, and print a monthy list. HTH

I have a list of fall dejunk/reorganzing to do. I want to get it done before the snow flies so that the house is not a cluttered mess for the next four months of mostly being stuck inside. I made a checklist and have barely made a dent... but at least I've started!

I'm in! Three weeks til baby is due, 30 days til we move. I need motivation and accountability

I'm hoping to donate/recycle/trash as many boxes as we move. One box out, one box to keep.

Then we (um, Dh and friends) will be doing Fall Maintenance on the new house.

I'm glad we haven't been in this apartment long enough to really "need" to deep clean (just vacuum, mop, and dust when we leave). But my gosh, there is just so much stuff. Everywhere. Just stuff. Stuff in boxes from when we moved two rentals ago that have never been open... There is no way we need anything we haven't seen in 2 1/2 years!

Master bedroom almost done. I've removed all the excess stuff, wiped down all the trim boards- just need to vacuum and dust for cobwebs. This is going to look so great. I really should have done the "as-is" challenge on this one- but I never think of taking before pictures. Maybe b/c I don't think it's going to be that big of a difference... until it's done.
