I so hope someone can put my mind at ease here.
Here's my story. Three first tri losses. IUI this time, got pregnant, was taking 100 mg progesterone suppositories twice daily in the 2ww. At 12 dpo my progesterone was only 17 so my dose was increased to 100 mg three times a day. At 18 dpo prog was 14.6 so I was upped again to 200 mg twice a day 2 days ago it was 20 and they were happy with that. Well today it has dropped to 12, they have increased my dose now to 200 mg three times a day.
How worried should I be?? Is it a horrilbe thing for progesterone to fall?? I mean if my beta was falling, that would mean miscarriage, how does it work with the progesterone??
I'm beside myself with worry. Can anyone help??

I'm going to go into the fertility clinic tomorrow morning first thing, that way they will have the numbers for me by noon. I contemplated telling them I was spotting in hopes of them doing a quick U/S but lets face it, at 5 weeks 3 days, it's not like they will be able to see a heartbeat and that's about all that would really make me feel any better than just good numbers. If tomorrow has my progesterone back up to a decent level and my beta has doubled I think I can relax until the U/S that is booked for Tuesday afternoon.
Thanks to you all for your good wishes.

Shannon - I'm taking progesterone also. HCG Beta doubling is more important, but the prog. helps w/ placenta development. I'm only taking 200mg/day (orally) but am at 9 weeks and going strong. You may want to ask Dr. about vaginal suppository form of progesterone. (I've read that it "takes" better that way, albeit messy, I'm sure. ) Good luck and God Bless.

Shannon-

Your progesterone should be higher than 13. Hopefully, you can get it back up to the 20s or 30s soon.

Have a long talk with your doctor. You want to keep the progesterone higher until week 11. I think it is time to discuss PIO. These are progesterone injection in oil. Nasty things. They are intra muscular injections. You need a big needle and you generall inject into your buttocks. This is THE most effective form of progesterone. There is something along an 80% absorption rate with the injections. From what everyone has told me (I avoided it by keeping my progesterone just high enough with the suppositories), it is well worth the pain to hold that healthy child/

although betas are important, you still need the progesterone at this point to prevent the uterus from expelling the lining. When is the next u/s? Hopefully you can see the heartbeat soon and hopefully, you can get your progesteron back up....

Please keep us updated. I am thinking about you.

Just tossing out ideas here, but how much do you think is coming out? 4x/day - no less at a time when you are extraordinarily busy planning (and celebrating afterwards!) a wedding - I would assume means you're not lying down for 30+ min each time. So given that these are oral pills, never meant to be taken vaginally, they are not bioadhesive. Could you try the new bioadhesive suppositories? It's called Crinone.

The oil is supposed to be the "gold standard", but the suppositories have been shown to be extremely effective at raising uterine progesterone but may not raise blood levels as high as the oil. So it's going where it needs to be, but blood tests may not reflect that?

Could you get a sono measuring the thickness of the lining? That might help alleviate some concerns?

OK, one last thought - have you been keeping track of the amount of time between when you take the suppository and when you get your blood drawn? Is it highly variable? Progesterone naturally peaks and ebbs, and especially if you are being supplemented, I would think it would be a good idea to try as much as humanly possible to do it around the same time.

Just trying to think of some different ideas...

Hang in there.

Shannon is on her honeymoon and only sporadically checking email right now... just so no one worries over much that they haven't heard from her.

Sending more sticky thoughts!
