Ugh....

A Central California family has just lost its second son to the war in Iraq. The third son is headed home from the war to mourn.

Nathan Hubbard, 21, died Wednesday in the crash of a U.S. Blackhawk helicopter in Iraq, just three years after his older brother Jared died during combat.

***

The family is now secluded in their home; friends say the boys' mother doesn't even want to come out of the bedroom.

"They're shocked, they're stunned," said their pastor Tim McLain Rolen. "The fact that they've been through it before doesn't prepare you for it again."

Just days before his death, Nathan's friends posted messages on MySpace expressing their excitement that he was coming home.

"Heard you are coming back to the states in about 40 days," wrote Vicks. "Can't wait! Keep ur head up. Love u!!!!!"

Seriously, if there is ever a draft when my boys are older, they're going to be the best darn draft dodgers you would ever hope to meet. :

You never know... : my ex-husband came from the quintessential "hippie" family...all organic, homebirth (in 1980), into a lot of new age stuff, Dad lives on a commune, etc.

My ex joined the Marines at age 19, and is still in.

My condolences to the family on their terrible loss, and prayers that their third son comes home safely.

Reminds me of the Sullivan family. In WWII, 5 brothers were killed on their Navy ship at the same time. You'd think everyone would know by now that war tears families apart.

I saw a movie about them... I think it was called "The Fighting Sullivans." Good movie,

UPDATE.....

Family buries a second son killed in Iraq

On Friday, the eldest and last of the fighting Hubbard boys stoically led Nathan's flag-draped coffin into St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Fresno, the same place where Jared had been eulogized less than three years earlier.

More than 1,000 people attended Nathan's funeral -- friends and family, old high school classmates in their Sunday best, military comrades in dress uniforms or desert camouflage fatigues, politicians and Army brass, and scores of law enforcement officers.

For Clovis, a onetime farm town turned fast-growing suburb on Fresno's northern edge, Nathan's death added to a grim toll from the war. He was the seventh serviceman from the city to die in the Middle East, the fourth in the last seven months.

As speakers intoned the verses of Ecclesiastes -- a time to be born and a time to die, a time of war and a time of peace -- mourners wept and struggled to make sense of the awful odds.

As a military family,we all have been discussing this for a few days.

The way we understand it, is the 3rd son is not allowed to go back. They wont let him, even if he wants to. DP still talks to his Sarg from Fresno, and thats what he was told. It has to do with making sure there is still someone to carry on the family name.....Sarg said the same point as the movie Saving Private Ryan.

I know several of our local unit members went to the funeral, since they had trained with 2 of the brothers.

Its heartwrenching!
