Has anyone adopted a baby with FAS? We adopted the girls with mainly drug exposure (and some smoke) but not FAS. Just trying to find some first hand experience from others and just not "research" info.

Thanks!

I don't have any info for you, just wanting to give you a cyber hug and see if you can share the outcome of what happened with your recent case... I've been thinking of you,

In the book, "The Kid" http://www.amazon.com/Kid-Happened-B...9848102&sr=1-1 He talks about what an "expert" told him about FAS. There was some new info in there I hadn't read anywhere.

I found the book Damaged Angels; An Adoptive Mother's Struggle to Understand the Tragic Toll of Alcohol in Pregnancy by Bonnie Buxton very interesting.

It's written from her point of view on what it was like raising her daughter then years later finding out she has FASD.

Thanks so much! We decided not to fight it and waste what little money we have left. We want another child to love not a very nasty court battle to fight! Yes, it was very hard to walk away and I think of both of them just about every second. We have filed complaints with the state and a couple other places. Hopefully others will come forward and we can put a stop to what they are doing! But in the mean time we felt it was best to move on for our family. We have a couple of situations we are considering as well as a surrogacy opportunity. And we still want to pursue an adoption from Ethiopia in a year.

What kind of information/experiential accounts exactly are you looking for?

My DH has a cousin with FAS. His mother was put on an alcohol drip to prevent/treat premature labour. It kept him in, but he was bron with FAS. He is now 31.

He is a really nice guy, but is 'slow' and has trouble holding down a job. He is also easily duped by people and has had money stolen/tricked out of him. He is a bit paranoid now (possibly wisely so) and is a bit of a conspiracy theorist. He doesn't have many/any friends even though he is far, far more sociable than either of his (unaffected) siblings. I think he spends most of his time at the gym and on the internet. He does live by himself, but his mother has to make sure he pays his bills etc. he is by no means totally independent.

I dont' know if this is what you were looking for, but I though you might like to know our family's experience.
