Hello Mamas!

I'm having lots of fun with my fat 6 month old daughter Mirabai who weighs 22 pounds. She was born 13 days late, was definitely "overcooked" (no vernix, long nails and hair) and it's almost as if those long extra days pushed her into survival fat storing mode. SHe's very sweet and mellow. But she has a few personality traits that make me wonder if they are due to her roly-poliness. A

SHe is very lazy. She has no desire whatsoever to ROLL OVER. She has never rolled from back to tummy and has never tried to that I'm aware of. When she was 4 months old, she did lots of rolling from tummy to back, but quit doing that.

Sometimes she makes slight moves towards crawling -- she will push herself up on hands and toes. But only onc or twice a day. She can scoot herself sideways when she is reaching for something -- and this is more like turning her upper body in a circular direction rather than moving her whole body.

Her thighs are so fat that its impossible to put a diaper on her with out the upperfat rolls being included inside. Im sure this impedes her movement and I try to keep the house quite warm so she can be naked, which she likes.

Any other fat babies out there?

My baby was big. I wouldn't call her fat though, but she was about the same size as yours, but she rolled over both ways before six months, and met all other physical milestones on time, and usually early.

I think every baby's temperament is different, and it is unrelated to weight.

check out this thread- http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=416375

I have a fattie too and he was so lazy- he rolled over at 8 months finally and started crawling at 11 months! He's finally realized it's fun to be mobile and get into everything so now he's slimmed down and is doing just as much as other babies his age.

What does your Ped say about this? Are there exercises you can do with her to help develope the muscles needed to turn over?

My son just turned 2 and I doubt he weighs 22 pounds or so.

Some might say G is fat, I prefer to describe him as rotund
He's 6 1/2 months and the last time he was weighed, he was 21 pounds. He's on the short side, too. I think the level of activity is related to personality rather than size. G is very active. He's on target developmentally and LOVES to be moving. His most favorite thing is Johnny Jumpup but he also likes to roll around on the floor and only likes to be sitting still when he's resting.

Maybe you could try some inticing toys to help your baby want to roll. That really helped G figure out the whole rolling thing.

I have a bigger baby too who overcooked by a week! He was rolling early and is doing the exact same things as yours as far as attempting to crawl, and he is 7 months today. I have a friend whose baby is long and lean and she is 6 months...hasn't rolled, sat up, attempted to crawl or anything! I don't think it has much to do with their size, probably their temperaments. My ds constantly rolls from back to belly, but has only done belly to back a handful of times. My pedi said that rolling is the least important milestone. In fact, it doesn't matter if they ever roll over! They will do all of these things when they want to badly enough!

My ds is pretty chunky. He's 21-22 lbs at almost eight months. He definately has taken his time in rolling and moving. He only rolled from back to front successfully about a month ago. He's scooting a bit now, but only in the last few days. He's been pretty content to just play and be still now that he can sit on his own. I think babies are just different. Ds is pretty mellow most of the time and I figured his sedentary ways will decrease once he does figure out the crawling thing. Ds's thighs have always been caught up in his diapers. I do think he enjoys the occasional freedom of nakedness and a very occasional disposy to free up his movement.

I took dd to the doc today, and he has a 6 month old baby who is around 20 lbs too. He told me that their ped said that it shouldn't bother them if he isn't sitting up yet, because he's so heavy, and it'll take him longer. So, I wouldn't worry. Your baby isn't lazy, it's just it's going to take him longer to develop the strength to move around!

I'm jealous! I want a fat baby! My beautiful girl is nearly 10l bs at 2 months.

The munchkin weighed in at a healthy 22 lbs at 6-1/2 months (he's 7 months now); he's not so much fat as he is "solid". He's loved to scootch around for the last month or so and he can sit up but doesn't stay sitting very long and he does roll over but doesn't seem to enjoy it very much.
I haven't noticed that his thighs get caught up in his diaper, but they're definitely chubby! Just the way I like them.

she sounds like a chunker. be sure she is in clothes and diapers that fit. She could just be mellow. liking to hang out. it is way to early for crawling yet. I owudln't worry about that. I believe nine or ten months is average. generally not long before they start walking.

sqeeze those rolls while you can/ you will mis them when they are gone.

Logan is 8 1/2 months and weighs in at a whopping 26 pounds. He's tall though so I'd describe him as incredibly heavy but not fat. He still doesn't roll back to front but in the past month he has mastered sitting, front-to-back rolling, crawling, pulling up and is working on cruising.

Your little gal will get it too but it just might take her a little longer than a 15 pounder because she has to be stronger to pull that weight around.

LIly was 9 lbs 4 oz and 21 3/4 in long born at 39 weeks 6 days.

At 7 months, she weighed 26 pounds.

She didnt gain another pound for TWO YEARS. Seriously.

Here are links to three pictures of her weighing 26 pounds:

at 7 months (born 11/26/02, pic taken 06/30/03):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...g/DSC00014.jpg
at 20 months:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...stlily20mo.jpg
at 2 1/2:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../lilytonka.jpg

She crawled at 6 months (bear crawl on hands and feet with butt in the air, never hands and knees!), stood at 7 months and kept going till cruising, and walked at 11 months.

Felicity is about 20 pounds at 5 1/2 months. She can roll over but I've only seen it happen twice, both back to tummy. She would rather sit up than roll. Figure she's gonna be a chub like Lily was.

Just wanted to let you know!

ds1 was 25 lbs at 6 months he rolled at normal ages, crawled at 9 months and walked two weeks before his first birthday. he was a very mommy bonded guy and really didn't start being interested in the world outside of mommy till he hit 1.

ds2 is 25/26 at 8 months though he's not crawling, he scoots around on his potty chair all over the place. he is a very gregarious and adventerous baby and he really really wants to be mobile..he's just not strong enough to move his bulk around yet

Isaiah was 18lb at 6mo. I know that doesn't seem big compared to all of your babies, but considering DD didn't weigh that until 15mo, he seems HUGE. He was born with a double chin

this sounds familiar! ds is almost 5 months and weighs about 16 lbs. he is just starting to roll from tummy to back, but not really interested in going the other way. he does arch his back up off of the floor when we are lying there playing. ETA, he overcooked by 13 days as well!

My first DS was 24lbs at 6 months, and my 7mo is 22lbs. #1 didn't really get mobile until 8mos and this one isn't crawling yet. Don't worry.

#1 is almost 8 years old, and is only 57lbs. Now he's super skinny. All those jokes everyone used to make about him being a linebacker are now being eaten by those that told them.

Oh yay! I'm glad I saw this thread!

My first was a stringbean - 8lbs 12oz at birth, 19lbs at one year, but always tall.

Imaging my surprise when ds2 came out (overcooked by about a week too) at 10lbs 15oz, 22in! I love all his rolls! His first two months he gained 1lb per week. My ped wasn't concerned, just amazed and said I must be producing cream It make me feel so proud that he's grown so well on my milk! LOL

1 month: 14lbs 4oz
2 months: 17lbs 6oz
4 months: 20lbs 5oz
5 months: 22lbs 12oz

And he'll be 6 months tomorrow!

He rolled over at 3 months, and sat unassisted at 5 months, and is now crawling backwards! He's a very active and mobile little guy and I know as soon as he gets moving he's going to burn off all those fat rolls! LOL My ped did tell me he might take longer before reaching milestones b/c he's so chubby, but he hasn't had any issues so far! I think a big part of it is that he wants to keep up with his big brother who he adores LOL...

He's starting to grow out of 12m clothes too His big brother is about 26lbs at 25 months old and only wears size 18m pants, though he can wear a 2T shirt... pretty soon they'll be sharing clothes! LOL

Nice to see a thread for chubsters
