Ds was enjoying hammering today so I thought it would be a nice idea for him to make a Father's Day plaque using carpentry tacks to spell Dad or something on a scrap of wood. Ds wasn't at all interested but I thought I'd pass the idea on. I used the pointy tip of an awl to make starter holes for the tacks. An older kid would be able to do that on his or her own (my ds is almost 4). The wood could be finished with a stain and a sawtooth hanger could be nailed on back. Once my ds saw the awl he was no longer interested in hammering. He wanted to stab the wood with the awl instead. Oh well.
