Does anyone have one?

We are looking to buy a couch, and it has to be dog-resistant and kid-friendly. I've been looking for 2nd hand leather couches on craigslist and such, and have not found anything great so far.

There are a few faux leather ones I've seen online that are quite nice, style-wise, but I'm wondering if they are awful to sit on, tear more easily, gross in summer, etc? They go for roughly the same price as 2nd hand leather ones.

Thanks!

We bought a whole set a few years ago. Overall loved the look of them, they were comfy - a little sticky in the heat, a little cool in the cold so we would sometimes throw a blanket down on them. They cleaned up great. All was good until we got a tear in one. Don't know where the tear came from but my godson worried his little fingers in it & 1" little tear became a 12 inch gash - oy. Then the new dog got into & pretty much ripped the cushion apart. Here was the problem - it was IMPOSSIBLE to find someone to fix it. It never would have gotten worse except that I spent months & months looking for some place/someone who could do a repair.

So when we moved we got rid of the couches (but kept the armchair) & decided to buy a new one. We did a lot more research this time & this is what we learned. The cheap leather couches are actually leather bits all torn up into shreds which is mixed with a bonding agent & remade into fabric. But that fabric is not so strong - there is no true grain or weave to it. Once it tears it is very difficult to fix & it can unfortunately tear fairly easily. With real hide leather (& you have to ask to verify what it is) not only is it more resilient it is also easier to repair.

After a lot of looking we were actually able to find real hide leather couch for only marginally more than the cheaper ones but we had to sacrifice the style we had hoped for a little bit. So far I am VERY happy with the couch - we have 2 cats, 2 dogs & one rough boy & it is holding up great.
