I've been buying drinks to drink during labor for like the past month since I kept thinking I could have the baby anytime. Needless to say, they are mostly all gone by now. I wanted to try the Recharge since I'd seen that a lot of people reccomend it during labor. I thought it was ok, but I didn't like the salt in it, I felt thirstier after I drank it ( I think that the salt is supposed to be a good thing during labor, right???) My ex-midwife said I was required to drink smart water during labor. I like reular water (filtered tap). I also like the Raspberry Apple vitamin water when it is on sale for $1.00 instead of like $1.69. Also, I like 100% fruit juice. So, what did you all drink during labor? Please give a reason if you drank it cause it tasted good or if there was a reason (like it contained electrolytes) I just wanted to go to the store tomorrow and get some stuff (this time I am going to have to lock it up and give DH the key so I won't drink it before labor)

I liked highly diluted apple juice...the taste was just right. Also, I love the packets of Emergen-C...they taste better than gatorade or recharge...mix instantly with water and come in a number of flavors. Other than that I did Celestial Seasonings Rasberry/Lemon/ or Red Zinger teas without anything else added.
I've seen EmergenC at Wal-Mart, don't know about Kroger. It's something just to drink a packet or two of while in labor, though, not like in big quantities.

I plan to drink water and cold (or at least not HOT) raspberry leaf tea, brewed kind of strong with a bit of honey.

I may sound like I never get out, but where do you get RRL tea. I have heard so much good stuff about it. I've never actually looked for it in the store. Is it also something I could get at Walmart of Kroger???

I ordered mine from http://www.compleatmother.com/tea_company.htm I'm not a tea drinker so I had no clue how to do it. I bought a little tea ball thingie too, but now I make it two quarts at a time. I just eyeball it, throw the leaves in and let it steep, then pour it into a pitcher through a tea strainer thingie - if you have a coffee maker you could use the filter from that somehow I think? I don't know LOL It's kind of weird that it's loose leaves. You can probably find it online in bags, but I liked this because it was JUST raspberry leaf tea and not a mixture with other stuff.

Emily, do you remember how long it took you to get your tea once you ordered it?
I am down to the wire so I'm not sure if i would get the tea in time or much in advance if I order it online.

I love lemonade. That sounds good..

Definately I am going to have to get some Emergen-C

Hmmm...this is a rather strange requirement. I've never heard of a midwife "requiring" anyone to drink anything.

I just preferred plain old water. I had horrible nausea so I didn't want anything that smelled. :

I usually make sure i have Emergen-C, Recharge & electrolite water on hand. I usually use them after the birth though. I don't usually get thirsty (blessed with shorter labors).

Ice water was the best for me during my last labor. I also brought emercen=c with me. I had lemon/lime. my doula suggested it for a boost of energy. I thought it tasted like crap. I would suggest you try some of their flavors first. I usually love fizzy drinks & lemon/lime but this really grossed me out.
There were 5 or so flavors

Ice water - with a straw! The straw was ever so important to me. I could sit in a nice warm tub and sip ice cold water through the straw - no hands because the glass was on the tub edge. Ahhh...dh knows to keep it coming!

I've been different with each baby. Usually I prefer water or RRL tea. But with my most recent birth I had to have chocolate milk of all things!!!!! So strange!

Water was the best, maybe with a little lemon. I've had lbors where I also liked apple juice. The Recharge was OK. I think I had iced green tea once.

With DS I really enjoyed drinking my RRL/nettle/peppermint pregnancy tea that I drink all the time. I also like EmergenC mixed with diluted orange juice. My backup midwife this time wants me to have green tea and honey on hand since that is what she recommends pg women drink (we are in Japan after all ) she also wants me to have one of those water heater things to have hot water all the time for hot drinks--I haven't gotten one yet though since I worry about boiling water in anodized aluminum and keeping it in there for who knows how long--plus they are pretty expensive!
