I just read somewhere (in a book I have about living green--I forgot the title . . . ) that you can wipe bathroom counters and surfaces with rubbing alcohol. For kitchen counters and cutting boards, use a spray bottle of white vinegar followed by a spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide. It supposedly kills more germs than bleach.

Edited to add: Keep peroxide in a dark, opaque bottle. Light ruins it.
Quart of warm water, teaspoon of Dr Bronner's.
I normally just use vinegar and water. You can also throw in some essential oils, if you'd like, as some of them have antibacterial properties (tea tree is a good one).

Someone posted here a while back that actually a vinegar-tea tree mixture oxidizes very quickly when it's exposed to oxygen, therefore doesn't do any good unless you mix it up fresh every time.

Someone else posted that she observed in lab conditions that tea tree doesn't actually kill bacterial colonies ... or something ... can't remember the specifics

Anyway, I'd look into it a bit more before I relied on it, if I were you. Disinfecting is way overrated anyway

I use that for just about everything!

I have a vinegar/water spray bottle for windows and a dish soap/water spray bottle for countertops, etc. I currently use seventh generation fragrance free dish liquid- the bottle lives on my kitchen sink, and when the "all purpose cleaner" bottle gets empty, I squirt in a bit of soap and fill it with water.
