Has anyone used MAMA Midwives in DC for a home birth? I was originally excited about them, but for personal reasons, have been having 2nd thoughts. While I'll explore this with them, I'd like to hear some personal anecdotes/experiences.

Thanks so much! (And, for the record, this will not be my first homebirth.)

I'm currently looking forward to my first homebirth in June and am working with Mairi and Erin at MAMAs. Aside from one time that she got caught up and came 30 minutes late to my appointment (at my home) I don't think we've had any other miscues. I'm pretty comfortable with both midwives and my husband and are very much looking forward to the big event in about 10 weeks! I'd be happy to provide more specific feedback if you need! emilyjace at gmail dot com.

They are great women devoted to their clients and full of experience and info and resources! Mairi & Erin are wonderful. I hope you can have a great discussion with them about your personal issue. If for some reason it doesn't work out, I'd be happy to send you other names. Don't give up on homebirth! I hope it does because they are both great!

Erin delivered my second child through Birthcare (she was with them before she started her own practie) and it was a wonderful experience. She was very competent, thoughtful, and just knew exactly what I needed, etc. My son had an elevated respiratory rate when he was born and she stayed with us after he was born for 14 hours just to monitor his breathing. The other option was take him to the hospital for monitoring and we did not want to have to do that - so she slept on the couch and got up every hour to check his vitals. When his respiratory rate became more steady, at about 4am, she quietly said goodbye and let herself out of the house. My son weighed 11 pounds at birth and because of Erin's skills and patience, I had no tearing and the birth went very smoothly.

My third son was born at home with Birthcare three months ago and I happened to run into Erin at Birthcare and she asked to be my birth assistant (she was already in her new practice). So she attended my recent birth and again, was wonderful.

I don't know the other midwife at MAMA, but Erin is incredible and I felt very safe, very comfortable with her.

They are simply the best. As women, and as midwives. extremely personalized, respectful care that you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. They are the top of the line for quality care as far as I'm concerned! I'd be happy to share more with you via pm if you want more detail!

Hope you find a midwife that fits with what you're looking for, and hope you have a great birth, no matter who it's with!
