Well it has come time to move my oldest son up. It is making me NUTS deciding on this step, and it's been hard to say that I am 100% there. He is 48" and 46lbs and 6 years old. Currently we have him and ds4 in Triumphs and they have been amazing. Good thing is we got them a year ago so we can use ds6 seat on the new baby.
So my question is what seats are great boosters, I cannot seem to find one with a Latch but I swear that I have seen a link here in the past. He has grown 4.5 inches in the last 15 months
but has remained skinny!
I just cannot stomach him in a booster, but we cannot afford to get a new car seat that will hold him to over 50" tall. I know he is old enough, tall enough, and ready to move up but this momma is just so scared to do so! My baby is growing up on me!!
The high-back Graco Turbobooster is not a booster that's used with LATCH, but it is a good safe booster for a child who's the right age and size, which it sounds like your DS is. And it's definitely under $100-- we paid $50 for ours. Plus, it converts to a backless booster later on, when your child is ready for a backless.

yes i second that. we just got dd a monterey from diapers.com for $99 plus a 10% discount (first time customer). it's fantastic, but we also have a turbobooster for dd, and she likes it, too. very safe seat, and a great deal. we found ours on sale at target for $38.
Well.... if he still fits in a triumph adv(really? lol) then he must have one short torso..he must be ALL legs. My 43 inch tall daughter can not fit in a triumph adv!! So...given that he fits into a triumph adv, you actually COULD buy him a harnessed seat that will last longer, if you wanted to...The graco nautilus would hold him for probably at last another year....but really, unless you, as his mother and the person who presumably knows him best in this world, truly feels like he does not have the maturity to sit properly in a booster, it's likely not necesary. The turbo fits kids well and is very cheap. It;'s a good choice. The recaro Vivo is also a good choice, and works especially well for tall, skinny-minnies, so it might be great for you as well, it's also in your price range. The monterey is latchable, although sometimes it doesn't fit skinny kids the best, because it is very WIDE.
really, what is important is that it gives a good fit.
Why would you want LATCH for a booster, besides to hold the booster when someone is not in it? Is there a benefit to the child? My 6.5yo is in a fisher price booster that is not latch, just wondering if he is missing out on some benefit, or if it is just a convenience factor

My understanding is that it's mainly a way to keep the booster secure when the child isn't in it, so that it doesn't become a projectile in a crash. I buckle the seatbelt over DD's turbobooster when she's not in the car, which I guess does the same thing.
At 6 years old a booster is a perfectly appropriate choice for children with no developmental delays or special needs, it's OK Mama! It might be difficult to find one with LATCH, but the use of LATCH and boosters is a relatively new thing without alot of proven benefits. I would not be stressting about it. My 6 year old DD rides in a Recaro Vivo, a Graco TurboBooster or a Britax Parkway (the old style) and none of those are LATCHable, but the fit is good! If you are on a tight budget, I would look at the TurboBooster. Easy to find, fits most kids well, back is removable for later on, comes in some cool patterns (LOL!). It's probably going to be the most cost effective option.
Really though, it's OK! And it is much safer to have your 6 yo in a booster than in a seat they have outgrown by height or weight, which could cause the seat to fail or not adequately protect your child in a crash.
