I started feeling movement early (8 weeks) as I do with every pregnancy (this is my 3rd pregnancy w/ early movement so I know what it feels like). This time it's been different because I felt it almost daily from 8 weeks until it slowly decreased and then stopped around 11 weeks. My placenta is on my left and I always felt baby move on my right, always. Now at 14 weeks I feel movement hardly ever (maybe 5x's in 3 weeks?)...and it's never on my right like before...only on my far left now. Last night I heard the cord directly in the middle of my belly w/ the fetoscope, placenta is on the far left. I heard the baby's heartbeat w/ my mw a week ago...baby was on my left w/ the placenta. What could explain this? I thought about the possibility that there was a 2nd baby and it passed away and now the other baby has the placenta on the front, which is why I don't really feel movement yet again. Has anyone ever experienced this? What are your thoughts?

It sounds to me like it comes down to your baby changing position in your uterus. Since your baby isn't really big enough to kick very far, your placenta could easily be covering it right now. Or the baby could have moved to the back of your uterus as well as to the left. The important thing to me is that you've noticed a lack of sensation for at least 3 weeks, but you heard the heartbeat a week ago. That means that, for at least two of these past three weeks, in the absence of fetal movement, your baby was still growing and maturing and developing a healthy heartbeat. If nothing has changed since you heard the heartbeat, I'd say there's no reason to assume, well, that anything has changed.

I was an early feeler, too, though not as early as you, and my sensations would disappear for days at a time. I have a high anterior placenta, so anytime she nestled herself underneath it, I couldn't feel her. When she moved lower, i could. Maybe yours is a little anterior as well as to the left and she has just found a place she really likes there.

I hope you get those sweet little flutters again soon!

ETA: all that said, if you feel deep down like a call to the midwife is in order, by all means, call her! If for no reason other than to ease your mind.
